Sub 'pops' when system shuts off

probably a simple answer, but ive never come across this before.. my sub makes deep pop sound when i shut the HU off, and a quieter one when the amp shuts off... or vice versa, whatever. anyone have any idea what this is? i feel like it might be a common problem.

Silly question but do you have your signal wires running close to your power wire? Sometimes that can introduce noise.. If so they need to be ran seperate from each other. Just a suggestion

Also make sure your ground connection is clean (on bare metal). If your patch cable is pinched somewhere or old that could be a cause also. Double check all wiring to be safe including your sub.

Turn On/Off Thump

Turn on thump can vary from a slight pop to a mind shattering, teeth rattling BOOM! This thump is caused by the audio circuitry stabilizing when power is applied. Most amplifiers and source units have muting circuitry that lasts a couple of seconds to allow these fluctuations to subside before passing a signal. However, if the amplifier un-mutes before the source unit or any other accessory, you better watch out. Here are some things to try if you have turn on thump.

1. Verify that the amp has a good audio ground reference. (See rule 6 of the Ten Commandments of noise free installation.)
2. Don't install the system so the amplifiers can be switched on when the source unit is turned off.
3. If you still have thump, add a turn on delay module in line with the remote turn on wire to the amp.
4. This concludes the section on turn on thump.

according to many on here, thats just a myth. but the answer is no anyways.

Interesting D-bo, about the delay modual.. i may end up having to do that, cus my ground is good, and my amps' remotes are attached to the remote wire from the deck so

i had a feeling that it had to do with muting, like that article says.

Easy way out is to put a switch on the remote wire and turn it off before you turn off the HU or shut the car off.

G-H-E-T-T-O

I also have this little pop when I turn on and off the amps....
Does the DLS have a delay switch/adjustment? I know my alpine did.

I have a strong inclination that it's the AVN, to be honest with you.

Instead of using a switch you should have been able to switch off your subs through the HU, via a menu.

You definitely want to run a turn-off delay. DEI makes them and they're cheap. Ask your local shop - they may have one. I have one laying around somewhere, but I have not yet completed my install and I may just need it.
