noob questions, already searched the FAQs, please help
Hey, I'm a noob as it comes to Audio stuff, I've never bothered with it in the past 4 years but now with the maxima I'm having a few questions:
Here are my problems:
-I have the non-bose system in my 2003 and I noticed that there is barely any bass at all. So I need a sub (even one 10, I dont need anything to shatter windows, just a little more bump than stock)
-my driver's front door speaker doesnt work at all
-my passenger side tweeter is starting to crap out.
Here are my circumstances:
-I'm not really that concerned with audio performance, I was happy with my stock system other than the lack of bass, so I don't need expensive crap, just something that delivers decent sound. So don't recommend me to go out and get audiobanh flame series subs and all that stuff please.
Here are my questions:
-for the sub, can I just wire it to the stock HU?
-what's the difference between the BOSE and non-bose systems other than the sub, the HU's look almost identical.
-should I just try to find some used stock replacements for the speakers that crapped out?
(there was nothing in the FAQs regarding these questions, well, they had some of these questions but for the BOSE system, not the broke poor loser-version like mine)
if someone could answer those questions, that'd be great. Any help would be appriciated.

The main diifference between bose and non bose is that all of bose speakers run at 1 ohm and are seperately amplified from a Bose amplifier. Non bose runs their speakers at 4 ohms and is using an HU amplifier which is crapier than bose and both are much crapier than aftermarket. If you are satisfied with the stock system get an amplifier with a high level converter and then splice your rear speaker wires and hook them up to the amp's high level converter and you will now be receiving a signal to the amp without taking your dash apart for the RCA's. Then all you need to do is run a power, ground, and remote wire (or positive accessory wire from something that comes on with the ign. like the cig lighter if you don't want to pull the HU) and hook up the sub.
For the speakers you may go stock or you can go aftermarket. With aftermarket you WILL have to amplify seperately as the HU probably won't be powering them the best way. I am gonna suggest giving yourself a budget and going all out aftermarket as you will notic a difference.
If you don't care about subs you can go to (don't hate me) Pepboys and get their Visonik Sub package for either 100 or 120 and it comes with everything you need to hook up an amp and it comes with either two 10's or two 12's. They aren't the best but for what you get it is worth it IMO. It doesn't hurt the pockets at all and the subs are decent for the price. They were my first subs for about six months then I became a basshead and got an excellent deal on two kicker solos.
Once you hear an aftermarket system you probably will want to upgrade HU and everything else. I did. I do suggest you do that though because the stock system will give you hell in a few more months/years.

If you are satisfied with the stock system get an amplifier with a hi pass crossover (I may be off on the name but it's something like that) and then splice your rear speaker wires and hook them up to the amp's hi pass filter and you will now be receiving a signal to the amp without taking your dash apart for the RCA's. 5th Gen bose uses ONE amp for all the speakers.
Get an amp with a high level converter, not a high pass filter. He needs a remote wire too.

I knew I forgot the name of it so thanks for the correction. I almost forgot about the remote wire. I usually just replace the whole HU so I wouldn't think of it unless I had to pull it out.

use this wiring diagram for the rear speaker wire colors...it helps a lot
Also use the IGN wire for the remote turn on

If your just looking for a little bump that sounds great with the stock speakers, just get a 10" of some sort. Even the cheap brands like lightning audio have 10" with enough power to rattle your trunk and make your rear view mirror useless. Also the lightning audio subs don't need much power, so you can get a profile amp doing around 60-100 watts to run it. Go to crutchfield and shop around a little. they normally have bass package deals also with the sub and amp together for a great price. Rockford Fosgate will deliver a nice hit with good clarity without breaking the bank. I think they are somewhere around $80. They don't require much power either. All you need from there is a 4-8 gauge amp kit($40), a box($30), an output converter from walmart ($18) in the audio section), wire taps ($5), and some 12-16 gauge wire that you can get from walmart too($15).
