Subwoofer has a wierd effect on my car stereo
Subwoofer has a wierd effect on my car stereo
This is wierd but a few days ago I installed a 12in fusion power facotry sub in my trunk and than turned on the radio to see if I could get some music to test it out (didnt know at that point that radio really has too poor of quality to really transmit heavy bass) anyway I've noticed that when the sub is in the car I get no signal with my radio. I seriously get 1 or 2 stations tops where as when I have the sub, and just the amp in the car I get about 5-10 more stations instantly and they come in clear... I am like wtf.. I like having a sub in the car but I pretty much only listen to radio.
Anyone know why this happens? Maybe the huge magnet in this thing is creating a magnetic field? But I dont know anything about magnetic fields.

First off, this should probably be in the audio section, I'm sure you'll get more responses there. But second, I have the same problem, and I've been trying to figure it out/fix it for several months. I tried installing an aftermarket antenna mounted inside the windshield; this didn't help. I do have the power antenna lead on the aftermarket HU hooked up because, well, the rear window antenna is actually powered. Nothing worked, so this is what I did:
Since I listen to mostly CD anyway and that's what I need the bass for, I put a switch inline on the remote turn-on lead for the subwoofer amp and mounted the switch in a dummy plate on my console. This way, for those rare occasions when I switch to the tuner, I can just turn off the sub and my reception increases greatly.

I didnt use a pac unit or replace the headunit. I tapped the rear speaker outputs coming from the back of the head unit before those lines get to the bose amp and messes them up, and then ran that directly into the input of my amp. It works great. Its a pure signal straight from the head unit. I dont really understand why anyone would use a pac unit if all they are doing is adding a sub.
the pac adapter has inline filters to get rid of any line noise. what happens if you disconnect the wires from the amp to the sub? so that only the amp comes on when you turn the radio on, but does not actually send a signal to the subwoofer itself?

And not many people visit the audio forum so usually response is pretty low here too
Connect all three blue wires behind the head unit or the oem antenna wire to the remote of the amp and make sure everything is connected right. Sounds like the power antenna lead is not properly connected.
