excellent fitment. quick question. Did you have to drill new holes in the brackets to get the kit to fit so perfectly. I just had my Z1 installed with the same kit and there is a gap at the bottom (the kit doesnt touch the climate controls).

ya i had to drill pretty much all new holes. and also i built up the kit with some epoxy and fillers and stuff so it would fit and mould more smoothly with the climate, and the lines of the sides. then i painted. took actually quite a while.

What kind of a deal did you get on that indash unit? I know a few people looking to get a screen like and wouldn't want to shell out money on an eclipse.

got the unit off of ebay for about 500, got it from a seller in Canada here, so no duty, ive seen them on there recently, and like i said it plays every format disc under the sun, beautiful picture quality,

pretty much man i just started using some filler, and epoxy and stuff and just built it up evenly around using a little piece of plyable plastic, and then just fitting it every so often till it looked like a perfect fit, it takes alot of time, but if your patient it will look really good, then just sanded a few times and put a couple coats of titanium paint. really you just need to make it a bit bulkier so you arent left with that gap you talkin about earlier.

Looks really good!! I would have just one concen with that setup. If you live in a high crime area, thats screamin to get stolen. Thats one of the big reasons I want one of those screens that comes out of the dash when you start the car.

Nice install. How did you actually install the unit? Im thinking of getting a dual-din player in my car but I don't want to pay $500 plus for the unit and then another $300 for the install.

Also what did you use to trim the inside to get the lines so straight and perfect? Im thinking of using a file or something with some sand paper becaue the dremel cuts too fast and its really hard to get a straight line (or maybe its me). Thanks.

Build it up, sand it down. Repeat process till you get it right

What should I use to build it up? Bondo? Also what can I use to apply the bondo? and does it really attach itself that well to the pastic and is strong enough for me to sand it down later? Also what grit sand paper do you guys recommend? around 300 grit maybe?

I don't know much about this process so if my information is correct, f-glass vets, please correct me.

Bondo would be fine, it should adhere to the plastic pretty well. I would scratch up the surface of the plastic first, with some heavy grit sandpaper, around 150 or 200, just so it sticks better.
Once it cures you can sand it down, yes, it's strong enough.
300 should be alright to get the big stuff smoothed out, but you will want to go all the way up to probably about 600 or 800 (maybe even 1000) to get it really smooth and ready for primer/paint.

dude, this looks really good for your first time.

i just bought a 2006 maixima and i'm considering putting a navigation system screen where my current factory screen is.

can you please tell me how you figured out how to install it as well as any recommendations on DVD nav systems?

thanks

badass...

man... I was going to put a flip-up screen in my maxima... but I believe I have changed my mind. This is one of the cleanest flush screens I've seen in a maxima, and if it was really your first instal, then its gotta be possible for me to do it. I just gotta know... WHERE THE DIY is?!?! I've looked all over the internet for a DIY on how to do this to a 5th maxima and have had no luck. This is the first time I've ever even seen a pic of one in any forums. The only other times I've seen the static screens were at car shows. Also, if there is anyone in the Louisiana area that feels confident they can do a job like this, let me know and we might be able to work somethin out. kthx to all, and to all a good night.

yo just like djfrestyl said man, take the kit, the remove the bose braket and the climate control together put the kit on, look at fitment (Which will suck ballz at first, get some epoxy and filler and shiznit like that (bondo will do) then build it up, fit it, see how it looks (in the dash) (beware your car will get dirty) sand it down build it up check sand it down until perfect, prime it and sand it and paint it and sand it and paint it again, then you're done!!!!!!!! i did it with it still on the screen and just covering everything up with masking tape instead of taking it off everytime, trust me boyz if i can do it YOU all can definetly do it..... i suck at this stuff

Maxima kit is not the same as the I35 kit.

edit: I don't think an I35 kit exists, except for the >$100 JDM one.
