No im not running active. I was going to but I just dont like the interface on the CD7000 at all.
Im going back to the 7998 because I feel that it is a much nice peice. It is much easier to navigate and while the sq between the 2 is debatable I feel that the 7998 is much cleaner in the high end. I will def be going active with the 7998 though.

what do you guys think of the 9857? i may be looking into this unit soon, i work at an authorized Alpine dealer and i can get it about half off, so im thinking of going that route for the good price.

Holy mackerel, your CD7000 install looks so much better than mine it's not even funny. I'll have to post pics soon so y'all can see why it's driving me cookoo.
Good lookin stuff btw. I'm supremely jealous.
Can you explain what you don't like about the interface. Just curious.
Thanks Skier

I have an Alpine 9825, which is the same as the 35 minus the remote and I love it. lots of tweaks and ez to use.

I have said this a few times before, if my Alpine CDA-7949 would not had an issue reading CD-R's I still would be running that setup with my PXA-H600 in my car right now. That was one sweet sounding setup. That processor had four 20bit Burr Brown DAC's. I had them connected through the digital optical output. That setup sounded very nice, and was very easy to use. Ease of use in the mobile environment is a pretty big deal for me. I can actually navigate through my Alpine HU right now very easily, and I've only had it installed a few days. I do not have to look down to know what I am doing. It looks like it's staying, at least for now.
I think Eclipse HU's are top notch, just not the easiest ones to use. I have tried the CD8454, and CD8455 (I really like this one). I even thought about giving the CD7000 a shot, but decided against it. I tried Pioneer as well last year, and was not happy with it. Sounded good, just a PITA to use. It really annoyed me to have to go through the menu and submenus to do basic things like pause the song, or adjust the subwoofer volume. The time alignment feature I think also added some kind of EQ-ing or something to it. Maybe I am just getting older and just want to have both decent sounding tunes in the car, as well as the ability to easily do basic functions with the stereo....

If I had that kind of hook up I would go with the Alpine IVA-W200 and PXA-H701

I myself want a HU with some sort of processing built in, so that HU would not work for me. If that is not something that you want it seems like a nice HU. At least they got rid of that dreaded Media Xpander (MX) function, and replaced it with BBE.

I actually thought my Pioneer DEH-P8600MP was not very easy to use. The cool thing is that there are several choices out there, and we can all kind of pick what works best for us.

In terms of interface and user-friendliness, my 9835 was miles ahead of the CD7000. SQ-wise, the 7000 seems to be better in some regards, but I never had the hissing problem with the Alpine. Overall, I guess I'm glad I bought the Eclipse, at least I like to tell myself that...
Of course now I have to stick with it for a while to justify my purchase...just wish I hadn't sold my 9835 right away![slant](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/slant.gif)
EDIT: Don, ygpm from like 4 or 5 days ago...

That knobby **** can be tricky too. I honestly like the idea of it, but it's starting to get really sensitive. They might wanna tone down the grooves on it too and get rid of the chorme on it cause it's starting to irritate my tips. I also wonder if it's gonna peel or not? Perhaps they should lose the little center button, put it somewhere else and dedicate it solely to volume, track & seek and up & down options only. I think it would rock the house then.
Like you said, it is a quirky little bastard. I like it a lot, but then there are some things that I wish were different. I guess that goes with anything, but if I'm gonna drop some bookoo bucks on it, I wanna be lovin it. I think it's got huge potential (that oel display is smokin!) and the sq is probably there (I don't have the accoutrements hooked up to it like I should, so I don't rightly know), but I got a feeling that they're gonna figure out some stuff in the next year or so, and throw something a lot better at us (I hope). With that being said, I'd be a shame for me to spend $700 plus clams on it and want to swap it out in a year or two for the new one. Unfortunately, I can't afford to do that, so I have no qualms in waiting to see what they do. This has been a good experience for me though, seen as I know what I like and don't like in h/u now. Anyway, sorry for going on for so long.
If I may ask, how you like them Profi's? Standard, kick or phase? I've been drooling over those for a while now, and with the money I'm gettng back on my CD7000, it might be trigger time.

I have the kick bass version of the profis and I must say that they rock the house! If you listen to alot of rock and music that has a lot of midbass in it I would def recomend these you will not be disapointed. At times I feel like the midbass is going to knock me over!

Sweeet! Sounds like they'd be right up my alley seen that's all I listen to. I'll throw a little Celtic stuff in there now and again, but I'm mostly listening to the likes of Dinosaur Jr/J. Mascis + Fog, Deftones, Tesla, Black Crowes, System Of A Down, Iron Maiden, Rush, Tool, etc. etc.
Do you have your doors all dampened up?

No, I did not. I may pick one up later. I do not have an iPod, but my wife and son do.

Sounds like it's time for dadio to get one too. Maybe it's time to start droppin hints around the house, you've only got 4 shopping days left. ![Wink](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
