Stay away from Kenwood's, especially if they have the stealth MASK+ faceplates that rotate the face 180 degrees leaving a blank panel. The ribbon will eventually wear out and your stuck with a useless headunit. My Kenwood suffered this, and my display went out. It's an easy fix to replace the ribbon, but it involves opening the whole unit and some soldering. Not worth my time and while for me. I then bought an Alpine and I love it. Much cleaner sound especially with 4 volt outputs and BBE. I'll never go back to Kenwood's again. My $.02.

I just replaced my Alpine 9855 with a Kenwood Excelon 889. Make absolutely no mistake. The Kenwood has a better D/A system, a more robust output stage and a much warmer musical sound. The alpine is cold and sterile sounding. The kenwood sounds like instruments. I will currently pass on Alpine until they get it together again. Kenwood units are hugely underated. You could very easily build an award winning SQ system with an excelon deck. My setup is an 889. front stage is edi6500, sub is a JL 12w7, sub is powered by vangogh 800.2 and the fronts are run by a JL 300/4. For a car, it sounds damn good. a soundstage and realism that my alpine NEVER had. go for the kenwood.
