High capacity in-car music storage solutions

I was looking for a hard drive where I could store my music inside of my car w/o carting back MP3 disks back n forth. I came across the Kenwood Music Keg. I assumed that it only worked w/ Kenwood headunits.

I have a Pioneer DVH-P5000MP. Are there any in-car storage devices out there?

Ipod with the pioneer adapter: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zUmaErl...0&I=130IB100II

I have the same setup and its the best way to do it imo no discs, access to like 8 of your playlists, and it charges your ipod while in your car. Also, the ipod/itunes make it really easy to add/change music as you wish.

i see u found it...yeah, them boys ain't cheap, but that's because they're the only ones selling those things. u might have to compare down to the cost per song or per GB of storage to decide best. like i said in the local thread, the damn cartridges are ridiculously expensive...but if you've got that much music (and u know i do), it might be worth the one-time cost; looks about the same $$$-wise as one of the bigger iPods.

1. Get a HU that takes USB
2. Get a portable hard drive in an external enclosure.

...profit?

How is $950 for all that stuff cheaper than $50 for the adapter for his current radio + 250 to 300 for an ipod?

I have a 60GB ipod and it works amazingly well with my Alpine IVA-W200. The "high speed" cable was only $30 too. No converter/control box in the middle. The ipod plugs directly into the head unit. I have the cable routed to my glove box and just lock the glove box. I was really surprised how well it works. It takes no time at all to search for songs, albums, etc....

My only complaint is that the ipod doesn't have gapless playback yet. =/

Well, i bought the Pioneer / iPod adapter. My friend has a Creative Zen, imma see if the adapter will read and recognize the Zen. Reason being that my friend also works at RadioShack and he's had success w/ using his Creative Zen w/ iPod accessories such as the charging dock / speakers and it works. Maybe it'll work w/ the adapter...if it does, i'll buy a Creative Zen player...its a better value than the iPod. I can get a 20GB player for about $199.

I am highly skeptical but also ever so slightly intrigued.

Any "ipod adapter" (that can control the ipod) I've seen has the proprietary ipod connector on the end, so it won't work with anything else. Having said that, some manufacturers (like Alpine) have support for general USB music players through an add-on device, but it costs a bit more. $160 - http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=KCA-620M for example. Using this, you can plug the USB cable from your music device into the "box" and the head unit will list the folders/songs/etc. Pretty nice.

i know this is probably too late, but there's the omnifi dmp1. i've never used this, but i was thinking about getting one when it first came out since it matched my head unit. if you have an empty din (or can fabricate a place to mount the display), it might work for you. it's made by rockford and has a 20gb hard drive. it has wifi, so you can send the music from your computer to your car. i've seen them go for pretty cheap on ebay, too.
