there's some paste tint that supposedly masks headlights and stuff like that, no idea whether it works or not.

I'd have to go with Escort 8500. Many of my friends had it before I did and from their experiences with them, I decided to buy my own and it works great. However, common sense always helps. 85 mph in the city isn't a great idea, even if you have a radar.

So honestly, even they go off, sometimes it goes off too late to save you. I still find myself slowing down at all the usual radar traps because I don't trust the thing.
