Does tint mess with the detector? Also my friend saids he has a clear tint that makes radar guns beams bounce off and don't get a reading....Is that true?

there's some paste tint that supposedly masks headlights and stuff like that, no idea whether it works or not.

And thank you for pointing out the V1 laser info. I honestly did not know that. Looks like I have a new purchase to make.

I'd have to go with Escort 8500. Many of my friends had it before I did and from their experiences with them, I decided to buy my own and it works great. However, common sense always helps. 85 mph in the city isn't a great idea, even if you have a radar.

And it hasn't gone off multiple times when there are radar guns in use. I just got a ticket 2 months ago for doing 75 in a 55 (I was doing about 82), and the thing never went off, and I saw the guy gunning me as I came around a corner. So honestly, even they go off, sometimes it goes off too late to save you. I still find myself slowing down at all the usual radar traps because I don't trust the thing.
It wouldnt matter what kind of radar you have if you are using "Instant On" My best friend is a trooper in NJ. They use the thing now where they can be sitting in the dark on the side of a highway, and if there is no traffic, no radar being "shot" When the gun picks up the first movement, meaning coming around a corner you are already nailed, might as well pull over. They also do it now where they have the switch and can turn it on and off as they please. Bottom line, your best bet is what you said (I do the same), if you know its a radar trap area, slow down, the detector isnt going to save you...Its not a cop dectector

Btw, you can probably find a decent radar detector on Ebay. Every once and a while you can find a really good deal. Got my Escort 8500 for $100

Your friend is full of it ......there is no tint that affects how quick a cop can get your speed reading with radar or laser.
