Looking for a DD Navigation with Perfect iPod Integration

Can I have both at a reasonable price?

Alpine's $30 cable works perfectly with the iPod (fast and displays everything), but their double din plus navigation is way too expensive.

Eclipse has the best navigation and SQ but I'm not so sure about their iPod integration. AVN6600 is the only one that has full iPod control.

Pioneer is perfectly priced for me, but I'm reading bad things about their iPod integration. Anyone have experiences with the AVIC-D2 and the CD-iB100ii Ipod Control Interface?

Kenwood looks way too flashy and its navigation units comes seperate like Alpine's.

Good navigation and full iPod compatibility are equally important to me, and more important than SQ. Please share your experiences using the above navi units with your iPod.

Just out of curiosity where is NB, NJ?

I did an iPod install with a z1, seemed fine to me.
AVN is a d@mn good unit.

Even on eBay the Z1 is ~$1600, way above my budget.

No text display for 5500 or 5495? What's up with that? And what does no 'browsing list' mean? Does that mean you can only search?

And how does this sirius connection work?

I'm not sure about the way the Sirius/iPod tuners work in conjunction with each other.

the sirius works just fine on the screen on the 35/95. From what I understand, the iPod will play, but you have to control it from the iPod.

Sirius works fine with it, but IIRC if you want to use iPod with 5435/5495 you HAVE to get the Sirius tuner and daisy chain the iPod tuner to the Sirius, to the unit.

Will this give me full control over the iPod through the headunit?

Yea but then you have to add on a navigation module.

AVN6600 + iPod integration would be the best choice.

Where would one get this? It seems the Sirius one has more Ipod functions for the AVN5500 than the actual Ipod interface

Get what? If I'm correct, you need both tuners, and you just plug the DIN cable from one into the other, like a chain.

You sure? That wouldn't make sense then just to add one more function.

After some research. I was WAY off. You use that Ipod interface alone--no Sirus tuner or anything. But you have to use it in the Sirus mode or CD Changer mode on the AVN. I read unless you have the AVN6600, Ipod funtions suck.

From dealer training it can be used with the 35, but needs the Sirius tuner interface. Instead of 3 sets of Sirius stations you get 2 and the 3rd sees the iPod as a generic interface.

Can you say more about this? What's the interface like? Slow? Fast? Do the most commonly used functions work?

Like I said this is just info from Dealer training. I have not personally confirmed it. The majority of my customers are not iPod users anyway, so it had no affect.

This **** baffles me. iPods have been so popular for years. Yet only one car audio manufacturer has come up with a good interface. And even that just came out in 2006.

Yep... just installed it actually.
OVERALL it's nicer than it's predecessors. The main thing I noticed is that it accesses the mp3's quicker and the menus are a little bit cleaned up. Also the subwoofer adjustments are a lot more adjustable than the previous avn's. instead of just 1-4 it has gain settings from -6 to +6. Also you can set the crossover for the subwoofer output... which you cuodlnt' do for the older avn's. ALSO.. a big thing 5th gen owners will like is that you don't get that HUGE GAP on the top with the GXE KIT. You got a small gap on the bottom instead. It does stick out more than the AVN5435 I had previously...
I'll get pics of it soon and post them up.
