Which way is your subwoofer firing?

do you point your subwoofer toward the front of the car, or toward the rear of the car?

just a question...

Most people with sedans that I know have their subwoofers firing towards the back. If you have a car like an eclipse or mustang, I would fire it towards the front and take out the back seat, but that's just me.

Mine is firing up, just because it is more space-efficient that way.

You HAVE to point them towards the rear. Bass sounds the best when you are 10Ft from the subs (not exact measurements)
SO, your trunk is not 10ft from you, so you bounce it off the trunk lid and back, thats about 10ft

Mine made a huge difference when I moved mine from pointing up to pointing towards the rear. It also cut back on the rattling a little bit. Mine sounds much better pointed toward the rear.

WTF....there is no "magic" distance the subwoofer have to be at. Otherwise concerts would have no bass at all if you were not 10 ft away

This explains it all.

So basically mount your sub rear firing as close as possible to the trunk latch to get the best sound?

I would say give the subs atleast three inches of breathing room. If you have ports, give them enough room to breathe also. If your ports are four inches wide for example, give them four inches of space

From what I got out of that site, you need to set the subs in the far back of the trunk (next the the ski pass) with the subs pointing towards the trunk latch. It said that was the best bass response. However, with the subs in the front of the trunk pointing at the latch, it said it had better bass response by far. I suppose they were comparing that to the previous experiment and not the whole experiment.

How exactly did you formulate this oh-so-interesting opinion?

Anyway, mine are fired towards the trunk, but I'm going to play with firing them up to see how much (if any) difference it makes.

Pointing up towards the rear deck would have the same essential effect as pointing to the front. If you dont have it sealed, cancelation will occur. Pointed to the rear seems to have the least cancelation. Try it though you never know...

My last setup was pointed up. It was loud, but the major draw back is the trunk lid flex/rattle, as well as the spare tire well....

I wonder if most people set it up this way because it looks best. I am not sure if there is a huge difference in sound quality.

I have played around with positioning a little and I currently have mine firing up with ports facing the front of the car. I might try some more positions to see if it sounds any different.

Yeah that's true. It does look better facing outwards. That way you can see what the hell has been shaking the whole neighborhood. Also it lets you appreciate a really nice looking setup.

Mine faces toward the trunk.

The best way I could mount it was up against the rear of the back seat. I have U bolts and L brackets holding it in place (via the rear support brace behind the back seat), so there are no screws or bolts actually going into the sheetmetal.

Rear fired. Though I had it a good 12-14" away from the latch & off to the side somewhat & a bottle necked port & it was still loud enough to... well you know

Round 2 coming up soon

Anyone try firing their sub toward the front through the ski pass(4th Gen.), or ripping out the cover behind the center fold down in the 5th Gens. Obviously you would have to seal the sub from the trunk so as to not encounter cancellation. Should put the bass more towards the front of the sound stage instead of behind it.

Ive seen that done before in a 5th gen, it was loud...thats about it. It did rattle less in the rear but man it make some things start swinging up front.

When I had a single 10", i tried pointing it through the ski pass. Then I moved it to the driver's side front corner of my trunk pointing towards the cabin area. It was louder in the corner than pointing directly through the ski pass.
