MTX vs. Elemental Designs vs. Image Dynamics (Subs)

Ok, I have posted a little before about me trying to find a good IB sub to use in my 2002 Max. I found three a MTX Audio Thunder 5500, a Elemental Designs 9Kv.2 and a Image Dynamics ID8D4 V.3 Has anyone used any of the above subs?? How about brand rankings? Do some favor MTX above all the rest or eD or vise versa?? Thanks!

Haven't heard the others, but have heard 3 ID 10's in IB cofiguration in an install that sounded great. Heard good things about the ED sub also, but well.....brandwise I think I'd have to cast a vote for ID

i don't know if it's true, but i've heard that image dynamics has a hand in designing elemental designs and if you look at the subs, they look almost exactly the same.

Image Dynamics is tried and true.
Elemental Designs is the new bigshot on the market.
don't buy MTX.

Yeah I am getting tired of my ED's in the rear deck. I want to move the front components to the back and get better components up front. AND, dum dum dum, and ID 10 or 12 in the trunk.

elemental designs isn't really a new new company...they been on the scene for a few years now. i wouldn't get ed because their reliabilty is questionable. buddy of mine went through two nine.1 because they simply took a crap on him.

mtx...eh...i'll pass as well. never really impressed me.

of the three you listed, i'll go with the image dynamics.

Take a read of the HUNDREDS of horror stories on carstereos.org. You might be there reading a while, I know the eD horror stories/ben milne thread is well over 100 pages long.

alrighty, I suppose it all goes back to the whole you get what you pay for...right??? eD is the cheapest...therefore their stuff/CS is the cheapest..

not necessarily. my sub was cheap, but it doesn't mean it sucks. the customer service at SS was A+ all the time...as it should be with any business.

another point of consideration, maybe is that the MTX sub taller, and someone told me that the bigger the magnet is the better the sub is....I think it probably was a noob who told me, but just wondering what the opinion is there..

magnet size has no correlation on how the sub will perform. some sub uses ferrite magnets while some use neodymium (there are also others besides these two). neo magnets are MUCH smaller, but their magnetic force is stupidly strong.

So in your theory, if the product is inexpensive then the CS should be sub par? Im sorry but I see that as being Very flawed practice.

Ya I see that as being a very flawed practice as well, but sometimes with other companies I have dealt with that is the way it works.

You should definately look into dealing with better companies where their customer comes first.

Not too many selections in IB. Of your selected choices above I would certainly lean towards the ID tho...

You can call Image and it usually get either the tech guy that designed the stuff or the president of the company. Either one will talk your ear off about their products or your install. Even before I met one of them in person, they really showed care about my setup when talking to them. What kinda flattered me when I met the Pres is that he wanted to chat and chat about me being a teacher, and I was like...dude who cares about that..you're the President of ID! Really good people and they and their competitors support the car audio community as a whole. Thats what I love about ID, and their products aren't bad either.....

The problem with ID is when stuff is on backorde it takes too long to get outr, or when they plan to release new stuff and either it takes an extra 6 months to a year (IDMAX 10) or never shows up at all (IDMAX 15, CSX subs, and of course the golden unicorn IDONE).

In conclusion...buy the ID's (yes they work IB)
