HELP: All Bose->Alpine HU+Bose Spk->All aftermarket + Bose sub

Hey audiophiles...

I currently am running an Alpine CDA-9853 deck through the PAC adaptor to my stock Bose speakers/amp/sub. The sound is fine, but one of the speakers is blown...

...so....I'd like to replace the door/a-pillar speakers but continue to use the Bose Sub. I don't listen to music with all that much Bass, so the Bose sub is fine for my purposes. I also don't want to invest in a new sub/amp and don't want a box in the trunk.

...so...what is going to be the best way to set this up? Do I completely remove the PAC adaptor box, or just use selective wires out of it.

in short: what is the best way to setup

Alpine HU
Aftermarket door speakers + a-pillar tweeters
Bose sub/amp.

I'm sure the Alpine HU has plenty of juice to run the speakers without any amp.

Thoughts? Advice? Wiring diagrams????

Also, any suggestions on decent, mid-priced speakers? I've been out of the audio scene a while, so not sure what speakers that are decent can be found for a reasonable price. Nothing fancy or super-high-power, just something decent that I could pick up at a local audio shop/best buy/etc....

I listen to mostly punk/hardcore/hard rock, so I'm not looking for a "thumpin" system

thanks in advance, guys.

Yes its absolutely possible. All youll need to do is feed an aftermarket amp from the preouts of your HU. I do say an aftermarket amp due to the fact that the 15 or so watts from your HU is hardly enough to power any reputable set of components. Not to mention the limited tuning capabilities and higher distortion rate of a HU running them.

Suggestions could only be answer based on your allowable budget. Decnt sets can vary from $200 to $2000 or anything in between..

thanks don....
assume my budget is in the $500 range....give or take. I'd really rather spend my money on suspension components, but a blown speaker just isn't cutting it...too much time in the car with the music on.

I know $500 is jack-**** in audio, but humor me and make a suggestion.

also, so the way I would do this would simply be to disconnect the OEM speakers from the Bose amp, leaving only the SUB running off the OEM Bose amp? And then seperately wire up all 4 new speakers (+tweets) with their own wires, running from a new amp?

How large of an amp would I need?

ugh....

again, apologies for the basic questions. i can wire everything fine myself, but am not much of an expert on the ins and outs of wattage, ohms, etc....I spend my time UNDER the car where I know what I'm doing...

Honestly you dont need to touch a thing with the exception of the RCA preouts and a remote turn on wire from the HU. You can leave all else alone.

Once you install the new drivers, youll obviously unplug the stock speakers so your work is dont for you.

Is that budget including fronts rears and amp? Just front? Just fronts and amp? Wiring? Etc... Im sure I can put something together, but just need to know some specifics as to where the money is going..

I guess it would be going to speakers (incl. tweeters in the a-pillar) and the amp. Wiring I can source myself at Myer-Emco if needed.

I'm also not against getting used stuff, provided it's in good shape and from someone reputable who isn't screwing me, just upgrading. Got anything left? hah...

again, not looking for any show-stopping audio. Just something that sounds a little cleaner than my current setup and is good quality.

thanks again for all your help, Don. I'm sure you get as tired of these n00b questions about audio as I do about the n00b questions in the advanced suspension forum....

Believe me, your "newb" thread is 10x better than most we see here. You have a clear idea of what you want, a stated budget, and the man/myth/legend named Pearl96Max.

So what suspension should I get??? lol

...In for a free post since Don will get you whatever you need.

sounds good...no rush at all. It being autocross season, alot of $$ is being spent on suspension, new raxles, new bearings, etc so the audio stuff will be "whenever I have the mod-money available for it" i.e. maybe a couple weeks or months, depending on what home renovations my wife wants to embark on next

hah, thanks. I'm not totally ignorant of audio stuff, having installed probably 10 decks, a few amps, and a few subs over the years - but all those systems were your standard "top of the line Best Buy (i.e. mediocre) stuff, installed as full setups plug and play using mostly factory wiring. The whole 2ohm Bose...er...Clarion BS that Nissan stuck me with kind of throws me off. I didn't pay much attention in my electrical engineering classes. Who needs that stuff for naval architecture?

Suspension....if you're serious, feel free to PM me and I'll give you my thoughts for what they're worth.

btw, you a tennis player, or does your name mean something else?

FYI those are a pretty easy install on the maxima if you can get the main hub nut off (breaker bar w/cheater pipe, or impact). I'm going to throw mine on on Wednesday - I expect it to be a 30 minute job or so - don't let the shop you use charge you for more than 2 hours, no matter what!

Haynes manual gives good how-to on the axle replacement.

Wow, I think you are the first person to guess that 10is = tennis without me giving the person a clue. Yeah, Ive played for 10 years, not so much the past 2 years but still tryin to keep it up sometimes.

I was joking, Ive got s-techs/illuminas. Im sick of the s-techs (had em for almost 2 yrs now), and in dire need of an rsb and possibly ltb, but those come after my current audio project. Yes, Ive had a drop for almost 2 years without an rsb. No flaming please lol.

yeah, I played hs, some college, and league tennis, so I've seen plenty of those license plates in the parking lot "10S STUD" "10S ACE" etc etc etc....

haha.....yeah, rsb is a must, though LTB might be a bit on the low-clearance side with s-techs. I'll be testing out a few new suspension products in the next 6 months for Larrio and others, so hopefully we'll have some more good stuff coming up for the 5th gen.

Definitely, I thought of the clearance issue. The ltb will come after I raise the car back up an inch or so, after I get rid of the s techs Im sick of.

I'm scurrrrrred of HID theft

It would be tempting were I a single guy. Being married, though, I already use up MORE than my "allowable" share of weekends doing car-related stuff/autocross.....driving up to NJ to get my "car stereo" worked on would not fly with the wife....
