Eclipse subs or JL?

I wanna get beats and I cannot decide what kind of subs to get. I have an AVN 2454 HU and everything else is stock. Including the blown bose sub in my I35. I don't know that much about stereo's so I'm guessing here. I like my head unit so I figured I could not go wrong with eclipse subs but the more I read, they may not be the best choice for the money. W7 is too much. What about these, http://cgi.ebay.com/2-JL-Audio-12W6v...QQcmdZViewItem
Are these speakers any good?
Why does everyone tell me "Ugh, don't get a ported box, they suck, make sure it's sealed"

Also, if these speakers are good, what kind of amp would you recommend to power them?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is nothing wrong with ported boxes. A properly built ported box will be much louder than a sealed box when given the same power and sub used.

What is your budget to spend on sub(s)?

Agree with above about the ported boxes. I like ID personally also, but I'd have to admit the W6v2 I heard sounded real good to me. Last Eclipse I heard was the titaniums a while ago. Either it sounded like crap as a sub or the install was crap, cause it left me with no desire to hear any more. Out of the two I'd go with the JL.

considering the almighty Don ran a pair of the Titaniums by Eclipse in the past, im certain it was the install, and/or tuning, bboy.. My Titaniums are impressive to my ears, JL makes a good sub too, they're just a bit pricy.. I had an Aluminum before my current, and it sounded great as well.

Of those 2 companies, I would go for whatever you get the best deal on.

Depending on how you like your music to sound ported can be good or bad. People who like SQ usually like the characteristics of a sealed box. A ported box will be louder and are usually used in the SPL crowd. But, don't get me wrong a ported box can sound just as good as a sealed box if built and tuned properly. Don't limit yourself to just the JL and Eclipse. There are many subs out there that can play better for a nicer price. As said above the JL is kind of pricey. You should really look at Image Dynamics.

Thats why their new stuff comes out a year late and the stuff they make now is always on backorder. They're too busy making stuff for other companies.

Eclipse Aluminums or Titaniums, if you like hip hop and lots of bass. If you wan something more accurate, ID's.

Thanks for all the replys. I will look into the ID's. Never heard of them before. I do listen to R&B, Hip Hop, and Rap. So subs that can handle that kinda bass would be the best.

I kinda want the best of both worlds. I wanna listen to hip hop/rap and have it beat hard but I don't wanna beat my car to death at the same time and sacrifice sound quality just to crack my mirrors and concrete.

Does that make sense?

I love my 12w3v2s. I have had many subs before, and for some reason they just seem well balanced. Not the greatest for output, but they hit accurately. I have always liked JL, however there could be better alternatives for cheaper if you do your homework.

to the OP...theres a LOT larger array of manufacturers to suit your needs, but between the two, Id say TC drivers > JL.

Did you look into kickers? They're not too price and I think you'd be good with a 12" L7
