going back to factory head unit

My Kenwood headunit stopped working today. Want to go back to the factory radio. I have a 2002 max. Has anyone changed done this change on their own? I usually have my radios installed at a shop, but i don't want to pay $40-50 for the change back. can anyone give me a write up?

Do you have a subwoofer or any external amplifiers? Or do the speakers run directly off the HU?
