Amp Box

I am curious to know how you guys have mounted your amps. My old one was small enough to mount on the back of the larger fold down seat, and held on rather well. My new one is heavier and longer, so just won't work mounted on the back of the seats.

What I did yesterday was build a base out of MDF, and three sides, leaving the fourth open for the wires to get through. Right now its just kind of laying in the trunk, and I have so ideas on how I might keep it in place(having some sort of L-shaped bracket screw onto the box, and the other end onto the metal behind the seats).

Any suggestions? I don't have much room to move it, as the power wire doesn't have more than maybe 16" of slack from coming out from under the seats.

Pics of what you built would help.

Sorry for the bad quality, but that is what it looks like, the lighter grey is the box. Right now it's on a giant pillow, to make it pretty level, and help prevent it from sliding around.

So went into the spare tire area, did you remove the spare tire?

Also, if I wanted to extend the power cable, instead of completely rewiring, which I really don't want to do, I have an extra inline fuse holder, since my amp is rated at 80a, could I "extend" the cable with another fuse holder, and put a 40a fuse in each? Also, i'd go to a larger gauge wire after the second holder, as it's all I have left :/ Would this be ok?

Your amp appears to be about the same dimensions as mine. I attached a 1/4" mdf board to the rear driver side fender area and mounted my amp there...

As for extending your power cable, go to electronics store or HomeDepot/Lowes. They have couplers that handle up to 0 gauge wires that allow you to extend a power cable easily. Only issue is there is no protective cover, so you will either need to use heat shrink wrap or electrical tape to rap the coupler.

you can also get a unfused distrobution block with a cover to extend the wire.

Ok, borrowing from the collective inputs i've seen here, i've decided on this.

Make a 3 piece template that is basically the layout of the trunk, use a thin MDF, and do the three pieces(side, middle for spare, and other side). I'll bolt the amp to the middle piece, and voila!

Sounds like it'll work to me, did I miss anything?
