Alpine Type-R 15"-DVC worth fixing???

I have an Alpine Type-R 15" sub, dual4's, been sitting in my garage for about 8months. I went to hook it up today and apparently my brother blew it before he took it out of his car.

So, my question is, since it was free I am not really out anything, but it looks to be a kick aZZ sub so I wonder if it can be fixed. If I hook it to my amp it moves but sounds REALLY bad so I know it's blown. Can it be fixed???

eh, define "bad"...

it might just be bottoming out like mad because the amp isn't tuned correctly.

no guys, it's not anything like that, it sounds like it is blown, makes a really loud popping noise as it's moving up and down, in/out of a box it doesn't matter. it still reproduces the music somewhat, but sounds like something is broken inside- actually when you play the sub it sounds like you are putting your fingers on the cone when it's moving-but alot louder...

look under the cone with the sub out of the box and play it at low volumes. anything hitting the cone?

OR it could be that the spider (the wavey thingy under the cone) is becoming unglued around its edges. it could be the thing making the slapping sound.

If just one small section of the spider comes unglued, the whole cone/coil assembly will be off ballance. This would cause the coil to slap/rub against the pole piece. If you puch the cone down with your fingers, do you feel it rubbing? I'd inspect the spider closely as fixing this would be quite easy.

yeah, same thing happened on with my older fosgate sub. a section of the spider came unglued from the landing and was slapping the basket as the cone moved in and out. some CA glue took care of that problem.
