The problem seems to be that even with a stock high amp alternator and optima battery the lights still dim horribly on hard notes, to the point where the amp clips as it's not getting enough voltage. What would be the best way to correct this problem? Optima yellow top, Kenetik 2400a, Capacitors, and other smaller Kenetik batteries mounted inline of the amp all come to mind, I just want the simplest and least costly route. Anyways, here's some pics of the install.

 

make power and ground wires as short as possible, Make sure you have a good ground. Get a upgraded battery redtop,yellowtop, kinetic what ever you choose. Also add a 0 gauge ground directly to the battery should solve your problem

but yeah, recheck all your grounds. make sure the grounding point is free of any paint etc. also upgrade the big 3 if you haven't already done so.

 

F*****G amazing setup! You have THE jeep and THE sound system I wanted in that jeep. Damn gas prices....But damn...gotta love that 5.9L V8!!

 

Yea the gas mileage is horrible (premium makes it worse) but with the k&n, high flow cat, and magnaflow catback it's making enough power to make it all worth while, plus the sound is heaven.
The stereo is amazing, I just need to get the quirks worked out so I can really turn it up. Is the Yellow Top really make that big a difference over the Red top that I already have? Right now I'm thinking just adding in one of the smaller Kinetik batteries somewhere near the amp, and upgrading the charge wire as all other wires are already 0 gauge....the ground is tight on bare metal.
On another note, my maxima is now out of comission as the clutch has lost all its fluid and I attempted to bleed the system and it appears that all the air is gone but the pedal still builds no pressure.

did you have the stock infinity? If they are the same speakers as the Durango's I might be interested in them because I'm lazy and don't want to mess with power wires

 

Says "premium fuel only" on the dash and on the gas filler door, there must be something different with this 5.9 than with the other 59s in the chyrsler family....As for the stock infinity speakers, all blown so their just stored away.

 

I would be willin to bet two things, 1) the gain is set too high, an amp wil usually not clip when the gains are set correctly, 2) the optima will not be enough to stop the lights from dimming when drawing that much current.

Here is what I would do, 1) make absolutely sure the gains are set properly and the bass boost is not on or set to zero, 2) upgrade all your grounds and perform the big three. Both of these will help.

I would say get a capacitor.....second third and fourth batteries are a pain in the *** to install, plus then you have a battery in your car, batteries can leak fluids and what have you. I would start with a capacitor. You do have quite a lot of power going on there..If i remember from my jeep, it has a stock alternator of 90amps i believe?? Anyways, if the cap doesn't do it, than you can return it, just make sure you're within the 14/30 day return policy whereever you get it at.

 

And I would say avoid cpu's advice. Bandaids dont fix problems, they cover em up so you cant see em.

 

I would just like to know how buying a capacitor is a "bandaid"? If the system is drawing too much power...Maybe I'm missing something here..

 

A cap is not worth it. They just hide a bigger electrical issue.

 

Well if the system is drawing more power that the vehicle is capable of producing...don't you need a cap?

No. You need a better electrical system. Larger wire, solid grounds for all equipment and def a battery or batcap. If this isn't enough, step up to a larger alternator.

Just something to think about, my bass amp alone is capable of pulling 120amps. Combine that with all the other accessories and the stock charging system will always be way behind. A cap will not fix this.
