Next Step Up

Ok folks, I have an Alpine MRP-F250 amp, which is a 40w x 4 amp, hooked up to (4) alpine SPR-17LP speakers. The speakers list a peak wattage of 250w and a rms at 50w. This current setup can't get as loud as I want it to. Well, it can, but I have to turn the bass eq way down on the amp, and I lose all SQ. I want it louder, while still keeping SQ high. What would be the next upgrade? Speakers? Amp?

would definatley go with a little bigger amp. Alpine is a decent brand, but that 40w amp has gotta go if you want more volume...

also, if by "bass eq", you mean "bass boost", then you should not have that turned up at all, especially for your mid/highs. if it's a crossover, then maybe set it up a little higher so not as many lows are going to your highs...

definately upgrade at least the amp. try to find something around 80w x4.. if you intend on sticking with alpine, i know the MRV-F540 does just that. its a little large, however. If not, theres plenty of other options available....

edit: actually, just give us a budget and we'll be able to suggest easier.

Have these in my rear doors hooked up to an mrp-f450 giving them 70 watts and they sound good enough to me. Amp goes for $200 on ebay. Not enough power for the type r components tho ill tell you that much.
