Poor reception with Alpine 9857
Poor reception with Alpine 9857
hey guys just wanted to know if anyone knows how to get better reception from an 9857 alpine deck. Ive been doin some reading and I know there is a way for pioneers to get better reception but dunno about the alpine decks. I have a 2003 SE, just curious if anyone has figured this out. There is a power antenna wire on my Alpine deck.. i think it is blue.. if i connect that to the green/white wire on the factory antenna will that help?
my bad.. i was just reading little further and someone else was posting about poor reception.. so i guess i do have to connect the green/white wire to the power antenna connector on my alpine deck.. could someone please verify this with me before i do it...??
? do you have your power antenna line from the deck connected to the power antenna line on the harness? should be a straight blue line. that will make your antenna raise when your radio is switched on.
as far as bad reception, i highly doubt it has anything to do with the HU. it may be a bad antenna, break in the line somewhere, etc.

its the Alpine head units in general...I've had 3 (i'm on the 9855 now) and they all have the same crappy reception. I spliced into the antenna lead and ran an extra wire under the dash (3 antenna's in total now) and that seems to work well. Before I couldnt even get reception at the drive-in

dozens and dozens of people have alpines on here and elsewhere and have perfect reception.
I have a 9835 and its clear as day.
For one thing you shouldnt have to connect to the green/white wire in the car at all because u should be using a wire harness, but besides that If your car does have a power antenna wire present, but you dont actually have a power antenna then you still have to connect the blue wire from your deck to the power antenna wire. This is because your car has an amplified antenna and that wire needs to see voltage in order for the radio to really get any reception.
I have an Alpine CDA-9855 that gets great reception and I havent had any problems with it since I bought it a little over a year ago.

hmm.. k so the green white wire i am talking about is the one in the pic where the red wire is connected to.. it goes into the harness of the green and white wire.. sort of hard to see.. anyhow i connected that wire to the blue power antenna wire off the alpine deck..and I am not sure if i can even tell if there is a difference.. cause the reception is still poor.. maybe it helped a tiny bit. I get some stations that are clear.. but i can barely hear other stations that should also be clear.. so far all i can conclude is that all alpines have crappy reception.. btw can anyone get their alpine to display the names of radio stations?
