The Best Mono Amp for $300-350?

Just like the title says. I only have on 12" Audiobahn sub in need of a 2ohm amp. I'm sick of cheap amps. I bought a Phoenix Gold Octane R 1500w amp and it's not working out too well. I'm going to sell it. Give me a good amp that's in that price range that is not a current hog. I really don't know much about amps but the amp I have now is pulling way too much current. Something's wrong. Give me some ideas.

One amp that impressed me especially for the price was the hifonics brutus. They are pretty cheap and put out a decent amount of power. My friend brought his car to an spl contest with 2 l5 kicker solo barics and the lowest model of the brutus you can get which I think at the time was 500 watts and managed to put down 147 db. It was enough to make your ears hurt. I don't know about the current draw but i'm definately going to pick up a brutus amp to power my 2 typr r 12's. Some people have had problems with the earlier models of the brutus amp frying on them but the newer ones are supposed to be much more powerful and hold up better from what I was told.

the current draw is a tad on the high side for the Brutus's, though they do push out power. my old one shut off on me a few times however ..

take a look at the Arc KAR series. lots of clean power for a decent price. PM Don...

With the amount of power you want to push, alot current is going to be drawn no matter what you do. What you could do is try to complete the big 3 upgrade, or upgrade and clean all grounds in the system. Also try different ground spots for the amplifier.

id recommend:

Alpine MRD1001 or the new PDX series
JBL GTO1201.1
Rockford Fosgate T1001bd
Kicker ZX1000.1
Orion 1200D
Orion HCCA-D2400

and definetly do the Big-3, and i hope your power wire going to the trunk is at least 4ga.

Yeah my power wires are 4ga and 70amp fused. I was told that wouldn't affect light dimming. I am happy with my sound output right now. I am just looking for low current or an amp with a good Mosfet Switching Power supply.

Update: All this time it was my sub....That Audiobahn AW1206T sub made my old Rockford Amp catch fire, overheated my Audiobahn Amp, made my new Phoenix Gold Amp seem powerless, and was making my headlights dim all this time. I just got back from an Audio Shop "Audio Connection" and bought a 10" Kicker L5 and hooked it up to that Phoenix Gold Amp. "Oh my God!!!!!". Lovely. I actually have a headache. Thanks guys.

I couldn't believe it. The guy at the shop tested the sub and the bi*ch went down to .5 ohms......I'm no rocket scientist but I do believe that's what cooked my Rockford Amp or any 2ohm rated amp.

I'd look into the KAR series as well. The NEW Diamond D3 800.1 is quite a champ too.
