Dorm Speakers - Finally Hooked up
As a continuation of this build thread [ http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=496305 ]
I finally got them hooked up and DAAAMN they are loud. They were turned up like less than 1/4 volume and I heard them... OUTSIDE!
The ehqs 12 subwoofers are very nice... they make my whole room.. probably even my house shake
i highly recommend these subs .. they are only 40 bucks.. you can't beat that!
The setup is the following...
-An APEX DVD player [had it lying around not being used]
-Accurus L10 preamplifier
-Behringer A500 Amp [feeding 230w rms * 2 at 4 ohm]
This where it resides when not being hooked up to the TV:
yeah thats under my bed
In order to go from DVD to Preamp to Amp I made my own RCA Cables.
Using parts from partsexpress
-Dayton Mic cable part#100-220 (midnight blue in color)
-Gold RCA connectors [black + red]
- White techflex
The steps are pretty simple...
put some solder in center pin on rca connector:
Strip the wire:

Tin the ends, insert techflex:
Slide it through connector [tight fit.. ] Solder + to center pin.. - to outside shell
Set strain relief (in this case a screw)
Attach connector sleeve...
One finished cable:

All of the cables:
How they look hooked up (don't mind the mess of POWER cables.. I am getting a better powerstrip and tidying it up soon)
These pics were taken with a point and shoot in bad lighting.. so they kind of suck...
I'll take more next weekend with a Canon 10d

the rcas.. the wire is like 49 cents a foot.. the techflex comes in a 25ft roll.. like 7 dollars
The connectors are 2 dollars each... had all the other stuff [solder/soldering iron/etc]
With shipping, I think it was about 20-25 dollars for those 4 cables. And I still have tons of techflex left and a good foot of wire leftover
