how would i go about doing it? i saw a how-to on it in a audio magazine... i saw u make a box out of wood then u fill up the gaps with stuff and u sand it down smooth then u lay fiberglass over that and u sand that then u paint that and clear coat it and ur ready to go... my question is where do i get fiberglass to lay like that?

also are JB audio subs any good?
how does 2 10" JB Audio subs in a sealed enclose for $250 sound?
and a 800watt Alpine amp for $200?

lemme know please
thanks

i wouldn't recomend building the actual enclosure out of fiberglass. id'e say build the box all out of MDF and then use fiberglass to cover it (make a shape you want) it's usually more sturdy and is easier to work with if it's your first time building a box. i'm just using the box i built (normal rectangle) with a fiberglass baffle in the front, and i'm doing the whole trunk in fiberglass for weight reduction, but the mold will consist of, sheet metal, mdf, body filler and expansion foam..

It's going to depend on where you want to install the sub. If you want to build the enclosure in the spare tire well, that should be fine, and just build a false floor\baffle out of MDF.

Cool. you should find it ni the paint and adhesives section.... BTW, I like to use the woven cloth instead of the chopped fiber mat.

West Systems has the best resins out there, but you pay through the a$$ for them. But for something like this job, any resin you can get in the hardware stores will do just fine.........

ok the box that i want to build will be aproximatly 17" high 10" deep 41" wide at the back and 50" wide at the front... thats about 5 cu ft
i want to put 2 12" subs in there
which subs would u recomend for it?
and i will also need an amp... i want one that looks nice while also is good at what it does... i would prefer one to have like the features that this has with the LED meter and stuff... http://www.justamps.com/Amp_Pages/Py...amid_Power.htm
also i wouldnt wanna spend too much all together... so if anyone knows of any good subs that look good as well (metal, chrome, aluminum, red cones) that perform well lemme know
thanks

woah... man that's too big.. i forgot the exact specs of my box, but the interior is less than one cubic foot.. i think it's .81cu ft. i say JL alotta bang for the buck.. subs dont' really matter too much.. but i like my alumapro's alot.. 200 a peice brand new. but then there is shipping since you aren't local. alot of people like kickers, and infinitiy kappa perfects are great too.

I agree with Ming, ( although I still don't agree with him on the decision to go with Focal over Dynaudio, but you can't win them all). One thing you didn't mention is what you want your subs to do. Are you the type who likes great sound quality or a basshead( nothing wrong with that). I ask, because that can affect what kind of sub you want and what kind of box to build for it. I think a sealed box with around 1 cubic ft. per sub, will be all you could need or want.Good balance between SQ and SPL. Especially if you go with the Alumapro or JL. If you go ported, then 5 cubic ft. for both subs sounds about right. I know Phoenix Gold 12" subs need between 2.5 to 3 cubic ft. per sub. My opinion, stick with a smaller sealed enclosure.

im looking for a hard hitting bass that is sharp and clear... i rather have it a little lower volume but a sharp quick hit than a loud long vibrating type sound... i heard that sealed is better for this... which JL would you recomend for it? which amp would u recomend? and how many cu ft should it be for that sub... thanks

Well, the 10W6 takes 300 watts rms. (Can handle more, but thats what they state) I have been heraing great things about JL's amp line. Lot's of people like them.I still like PPI amps. Of course there are others out there as well. Alot of Class D sub amps, which give good bang for the buck.....

how bout the 12w6 how much to they take? basically so i should look for an amp that puts out 300 watts rms?
also what are the bridged and stereo 2ohms 4ohms 300x2 450x1 all that stuff about... i dunno which specs to look at... lets say i want the JL w6s... we'll work around that..

Well, it's like this. If you hook up 1 4ohm sub you will get 300 watts. If you hook up 2 4ohm subs, you may get 500 watts, which will be split up in 2, with each sub getting 250. I've heard great things about these amps, and the price is nice. 2ohm load is 520 watts, which should drive a pair of subs fine.

but arent the w6s 6 ohm speakers? so if i wanna connect 2 of them the amp that u recomended to me is a good one? do you know if there is a pic anywhere of it? is there a way to wire them to get the load that i want? i dunno im confused about this stuff...

Well, the W6 is a dual voice coil, with each one being 6ohm. with both coils wired in parallel, it comes out to 3 ohms. By hooking up to subs, the total load would be 1.5 ohm. I'm not sure if these amps are 1.5 ohm stable, I would contact www.ampmanaudio.com and ask them to make sure, but I believe they are. If not at $245 each for the mono sub amp, you could get 2( they sell them as a pair for $469) and feed each sub 550 watts. Fun

i think JL is 1.25 cubic feet (dont' quote me on that) so double that up.. if the box is too big the subs wont hit right. you wont get good bass response.. i tend to build my box .01 cubic feet smaller, that way the bass is a lil tighter.. it all depends on what kinda sound u like
