Will 2000+ Bose system work in my 98?

I'm hoping to upgrade sound a little in my 98. Don't want anything crazy $$ so I thought getting a used system on here would be good. I would rather the upper year max systems since they have better quality. So the question is, the HU doesn't fit right in my 98 so, can I connect all the upper year bose speakers right to the harnesses I have? I will try to get the full system (hu,speaker, amp, sub) for this change. Would everything work if I do that? Do I need to actually get the whole system to have it work or will my 98 amp and all power the upper speaker? Any thoughts?

You could but you're wasting your money for something that won't sound all that much better in your car. You'll have to make a cut out for the rear sub, you'll need the wiring harness from the 5th gen as it has a single amplifier for all the speakers rather than a single amp on each speaker like the 4th gen.

so the quality of sound really isnt better in the newer max's? I don't want to go through buying all the speakers and ohm converters and all.

You don't need ohm converters. Get a new headunit, an amp, and 4 speakers and you'll be set.

Besides all that, even if you did get it to work, it'll sound worse. 4th gen Bose sounds so much better than the 5th gen, and the 4th gen Bose isn't all that great either so that gives you an idea about the 5th gen Bose..

Wow I didnt know that the 5th gen sounded worse. I just figured newer speakers would sound better. There is no way I'm buying all the stuff. I dont want anything but double din. Hate that open spot under the HU. Looking for flat touch-screen later but thats far down the road. So I guess this is out.

5th gen Bose was terrible. I second the getting an aftermarket HU and 4 channel with the upgraded speakers. I have heard door + rear deck combos that crushed the stock Bose system in a 4th gen. JMO.
