Bose amp.....non bose wiring.

I have a non-bose car. It was theft stripped and I put the bose headunit in it. Only because I ordered a non-bose from the wrecking yard and when it got here it didn't work. Because it didn't work he sent me the only other unit they had which was a bose unit. It plugged in and plays the speakers but above a certain vol it distorts (signal not made for power only amp out).

So my question is, since the head unit plugged in and worked in every way except the amp out issue, will the bose amp plug into my existing wiring and work without modification?

Anyone................?

Thanks

I don't think so. Usually Bose is a fully different wire harness. Where would you even plug it in?

There were 6 wires running to my bose amp. 2 were the power wires and 2 were the signal wires. I'm guessing the 2 that were left over were probably the tweeter wires. Check inside your door panels and see how many wires you got in there. I highly doubt it's plug and play with the bose unit.

He will have 1 pair of wires in his doors- for the woofer only. 4th gen layout is very dissimilar to the 6th gen.

Ok, thanks for the response. Here is what I have:

Does anyone know if the bose system has all of these plugs. It's apparent to me that my car had an aftermarket amp in it at some point (particle board attached under the rear deck-pictured). The other component that looks like an amp works the rear deck speakers only (If I unplug it they stop but all other speakers still work.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it possible to add an aftermarket amp to the Bose head unit? I went to Best Buy today and they told me it wasn't possible. I find that hard to believe.

I found a few that refered to changing the system around but none which talk about the 6th gen stuff. How about this idea.......I'll cut the speaker wires at the door hinge, run the wires from the headunit back to an amp change them to RCAs, and run the wires from the amp back to the speaker wires coming from the door (where I cut the wires). Think that will work?

What a freaking headache this crap is. I just want to get it working to sell the damn thing!

You don't need to cut anything. Splice in RCA's into the speaker leads coming out of your HU. They're line level (preamp) anyway.

Thanks djfrestyl I just ordered a 4 chnl 250 watt amp ($35) that should do the trick. I'll just have to make sure I don't blow the stock speakers with that much power going to them.

I do not suggest amplifying stock speakers, and did not indicate for you to do so anywhere in this thread.

I know you didn't. I don't have any other choice. I tried to find the smallest amp I could, cheap.

I'm guessing my amp is bad. I installed it in the above mentioned way and I get a constant humming at vol 0 and a random popping noise. More work.
