*Pics* Speakers and Headunit in 4th Gen
I bought Premier Deh-P580MP unit, got Metra antenna adaptor and wiring harness 70-7550 from BestBuy.
But the Spacer/tray that they gave me is too wide and it doesn't fit. I'm looking for it everywhere (Autozone & Strauss don't have a normal tray without bulky frame that sticks out.
I'm gonna look in Circuit city.

look dude, u r not supposed to see the metal behind the deck. unless u put it in and took a picture just to see what it WILL look like, thats another story, but u r supposed to have that deck put into the plastic housing that gives u a storage area underneath the deck, and only THEN install it into the dash
Speakers don't have "ohms". It's called an impedance. Ohms is the measurement for impedance. You should check your radio's owners manual to see that the output is rated for. (probably 4-8 ohms) Then if you can't find out that the speakers are rated for, put a multimeter across the two leads on the speaker and see that the ohm measurement is. It should be pretty close to the actual impedance of that speaker. If it's under the radio's spec, you could damage the radio by connecting those speaker to it. Once it gets under the recommended impedance, the radio starts to see it like a short and we all know a short is bad! As long as it as the same ohm impedance rating or higher, it should be ok.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.
you wont blow ur components running them off the aftermarket headunit. you should deff get a 2 or 4 channel amp to power the components tho, otherwise its kind of a waste because the speakers wont function at their full potential with just the power from the headunit. if you get an amp for the components, then you have to be careful as to not push too much power to them. otherwise you will blow them

Parag is right... I though about doing that with my Eclipse units, and it just seemed that there would be an issue when the face would fold down (especially with the CD7000).

I yanked the Bose out the first chance I got on my 5th gen
. On my 4th & 3rd gen, I did the same, but they were both non-Bose setups.
To tell you the truth, the Bose system sounded ok...not great, but ok. This ofcourse was at low listening levels. Anything more and the system was being over extended.

yo dude your getting a lil too technical, just get new speakers, that headunit would blow the bose speakers if u had the bose system, factory speakers aint nothin but like 35Watt speakers.... a pioneer, kenwood, alpine, or rockford speakers would be recommended (i work at best buy)

WRONG. Metra 70-7551, safely and easily run the bose speakers with an aftermarket HU.

I did the same in the max and alti, both bose equipped

... that metra thing doesnt sound better with regular factory speakers than a good after market speaker with any Amp... the bose in the maxima' sound EXACTLY like the infinity's in a chrysler LHS and i've heard both, its not the best yo... why you think when people (like me) upgrade their sound system they go with after market speaker... look at the material that the non bose speakers are made of and look at an aftermarket... it's a night and day difference so, dont tell me to get a new job... how about you start looking for a job

I already have a job

Oh and the comparison here isn't between the aftermarket amp vs bose. That is a whole new ball game. You said nothing about that in your OP. You were wrong about the HU blowing the BOSE, it won't do any harm to them. And as far as speaker recommendations, what about Rainbow, DLS, Hertz, Dynaudio, HAT, Morel... etc. etc.

Unfortunately your so far off and dont even know it.
BTW OEM speakers are paper coned a commodity many audiophiles pay big bucks for. Too bad your lost in the hype of cool looking cones at Best Buy to know that. I think you should carefully evaluate your statements and facts before touching the keyboard.
and yes, I do like old funny threads like this one.

And yeah thanks for opening up teh thread of elite gayness. where he probably already has his new HU in and has blown the speakers and replaced them by now -_-
I never said the OEM paper coned drivers, but paper cones in general WILL give the most natural reproduction. Your still young, you'll learn in time.
Your sarcasm is not needed or welcomed.

Paper is the choice of audiophiles alike, but it is not the best choice for car speakers though. At home, speakers are not subjected to such temperature extremes as car speakers are. A car can go anywhere from -30C to +40C where as the temperature is relatively more stable inside a house. Thus paper speakers dry out very fast in a car and easily rip and pop. Also, the rubber surround on a speaker dries out and rips as u abuse it more and more.
Thus the need for plastic based materials in todays car speakers. Plastic does not loose its properties in the same way a paper cone would when subjected to extreme temperature changes. Plastic based cones are also used because of their rigidity, something paper cannot match. As you increase the volume the cone approaches its excursion limit and begins to break up. This Excursion limit is a lot higher for a plastic cone. In other simple terms plastic cones last longer but sound worse. This may be argued by some that say: "Well I can blast my speakers THIS loud". That is exactly the problem with that statement. It's all about quality VS quantity of sound. Paper speakers are more sensitive than heavier plastic speakers are. At 1w of power 1m away from the cone (also called sensitivity) a plastic speaker may in fact be louder than a paper speaker is, but the bandwidth of that same plastic speaker will never be as wide as that of a paper one. This means that although a plastic cone moves more air, it does so at a limited bandwidth, where as a paper cone has a wider bandwidth of frequencies that it can reproduce more effectively. Thats where quality comes in, paper speakers reproduce the vocal range to stunning perfection. Something plastic has yet to catch up to.
So for the sake of ZaxWhite97Max, You blew the paper speakers because you blasted them with base. something those little 6.5" speakers were not designed to do. Why do you think all the new HU's harry 180w/4 or more amplifiers? because they were designed to push those new plastic speakers which are less efficient and need more power to move the same amount of air as compared to a paper coned speaker.

Generally correct, but also as you stated..quality over quantity. In this day and age paper cones from reputable manufacturers will last years to come and sound as good as the day they were originally bought. This is of course when treated properly and not misused regardless of ambient temps and the likes.
I completely agree. My main JBL system at home is made of a hybrid design that incorporates a paper cone treated with Polymer mixed plastic. The cone is reinforced but still gives that sweet paper sound. The tweeters are all titanium of course no silk here.
I can't believe what some companies go through to sell their speakers. Take sony for example and their XSV1642A XPLOD speaker. A 4-way design? are you kidding me? Those tiny toy tweeters maybe will produce a sqeal, but a sharp, high guitar note -- forget about it. An effective tweeter is in the 0.5" to 1.5" size no more no less. I think maybe audiophiles will remember BO$E and their pathetic sounding 2" tweeters in their acoustimas series of speakers.
Those things were confused themselves whether they were mid-ranges or tweeters! HAH
