Making a Switch Board

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but figured you guys would be best to ask.

I'm making a board of switches to go in place of where my open DIN pocket is right now (just below my headunit). It'll have switches to control fans, overdrive (aftermarket shifter), my shift_fast, etc. SO...

What material do you suggest using for the board that I'll be mounting everything to? It needs to be sturdy, obviously, and it needs to not crack when being drilled through to mount the switches. Can't be real expensive, either.

I have more questions, but they can wait 'til I get this one answered.

ABS should do the trick quite easily.

Abs would probably be the best suited for this app because, esp since your dash is black, easier to make it match.

Thermal issues?

Aluminum might be a bit heavy as far as adding weight, too. I dunno, maybe not. Let's see if I can track down sheets of ABS. Where would I pick that up at? Don't tell me hobby store, I have none locally.

Aluminum gets quite hot sitting in the sun. Also with ECU and heater vents nearby it could also get quite warm to the touch. Shouldnt be too heavy though, standard sheet metal in that size wouldnt be heavy at all.

Any mobile audio shop should have it. Metra sells 12 X 12 sheets and most dealer should have it on hand.

Yes

Alright, I'll go searching for some ABS, and if not, I'll grab some aluminum.

I'm not worried about heat too much, as no one but me will be touching this panel and I'll only be flicking switches or pushing buttons. It will be painted black, as well, but ehh, I'll be ok in the sun
