I just got a 92 GXE with bose, but no CD. I went to Best Buy, and they told me that with BOSE, I couldn't just add in a CD deck without replaceing and rewiring everything. I have 250 to spend, and all I want is CD. The stock BOSE is good enough sound for me, but I want to know the best way to put in CD.

Well, you can buy an aftermarket HU, and just buy the converters for the Bose system. Or, by a CD changer with an RF modulator and connect it to the factory unit.

What are the converters, and how much are they. I just called Best Buy and asked them about putting in the new head unit with premium wire harnesses, and the tech guy there said that they wouldn't do the install because they had had too many problems with it.

There is a converter that is used to convert the signal down to the low ohm rating of the BOSE. I believe they are around $50. My opinion is find another store, because the guy at Best Buy doesn't know what he's talking about ( Big suprise) They are used all the time with no problems.

Is that all you need to replace the factory head unit while keeping the bose speakers? Are there any cons to using a converter?

Tha I am aware of,no. When I worked selling systems, they were quite popular with people that had 300ZX's and Maximas. Seemed to work fine, and everyone was happy.

Any reputable Stereo shop shop should carry them. Lightning Audio makes converters I know Called the PSI-1

to my stock bose HU i bbought the converter and from the two speakers in the trunk i connected the converter
i obught the converter for 30$ let me know if u need one i have no prob pickin one up for u
if u have probs getting it
