Quick wiring question

Wanted to know before hand so I knew what Im getting myself into. I have a 2001 GLE with Bose. Do the internal front speakers wire directly to the head unit? Or is there a crossover/external amp somewhere else?

Thanks.

its pretty complicated. nothing goes straight from the HU without being amplified at some point. the speakers all have separate amplifiers but I think (and someone chime in if i'm wrong) they all go back through where the sub is and then go to their locations where they are powered by individual amps. not sure about that last part though.. hope that helps

The HU wires go directly to the amp in the trunk...rear deck. Then the wires go to each speaker. The sub has an amp built into it. The tweeters have in-line crossovers.

To clarify, only 4th gens have individual amps. In the 5th gen, the amp for all 4 speakers is one unit in the trunk. The amp for the sub is that black plastic basket underneath the (wimpy) magnet.

Gotcha! Thanks for your info. I saw the other thread you posted too. Exactly the info I need. Should be easy to do because my Intrepid had a stock amp in the trunk aswell. Where are the inline crossovers? Are they together with the tweeter?

They're near the tweeter. If you're replacing with coaxials then you need not worry about them. If you're replacing with crossovers, then you would have to run new wire to the tweeter from the crossover anyway.
