seriously though, thanks man, let me ask you a couple questions about it now;
can you scroll through the various lists with the steering wheel controls, can you skip tracks with the steering wheel controls? Is it pretty speedy in terms of loading everything up, playing songs, skipping songs, scrolling through the various lists? Are you pretty happy with what it can do?

thanks again jeff, for taking a bullet for the team like this. way to be.
I can skip tracks with the steering wheel controls. IF I hold down the "next track" button the steering wheel it fasts fowards. With the CD Changer and mp3 CD's holding it down changes to the next disc or next FOLDER, respectively. It's pretty quick to load up, much faster than an Mp3 CD. Search is easy to use but I think it's on screen only....but it's pretty intuitive..nothing a regular ipod user can't figure out.

BEST OF ALL...the install was cake. Ground the unit, TAP the power. Plug everything in. IF you have a 5th gen I got a nice SPOT for you to hide it too that I'll share with you...ONLY IF YOU BUY ONE!!!

BTW REPLICANT AND DON....
I had talked to DON about the whole BLUETOOTH issue with people running amps. We had to hook up an external speaker to get sound out of the bluetooth unit. That's cool..but when you're not using the bluetooth of course it's going to play your music though it also.
DON had suggested to cut the wires going from the bluetooth unit to the headunit. WORKS LIKE A CHARM! I tried this last night while I was behind the headunit. NOW all I need to do is get a nice speaker...

I hate you Jeff, ok I'm going to move some funds around this week and if Don gets me a price back by Friday I'll go ahead and order it this week BTW, I have an old klipsch speaker (meant for computers) but it has a normal speaker wire attached to it (pos/neg), would this work for the bluetooth speaker?

Thanks again holmes for getting all of this hooked up.

THAT would work...do you have a place to put it? I saw some pics of someone hooking up a DLS midrange behind them on the panels behind the seat in a 350z...pretty pimp. I think I found what I want though...

Yeah i'll make SURE don gets you a price ASAP!!

i didn't get my ipod yet, it's in the mail...that's my dad's ipod.
YOu can get the ipod video cable kit to hook up to the aux inputs EASILY. I haven't tried an ipod video...but if anyone I know has one i'll ask to try it...see what happens. lol.

I got this done with my AUX INPUTS:

it's a secret.

j/k
I tucked it on the side of the dash opening. If you have your radio out and you're looking at the opening where the radio would go...the corner closest to you on the left side. I tucked it in there...it's JUST enough room.

The wire I was talking about is for when you hook up your amps and rainbows...it's the wire coming from the headunit to the wiring harness...I cut the white wires cause that's where I hooked up the speakers. I purchased the ECLIPSE CENTER CHANNEL speaker (google it)...I will receive it on MONDAY. Previously I purchased a little 1" full range speaker...it sucked....not loud enough.

GOOD LUCK!

GXE VENT ASSEMBLY FTW

It's the easiest most clean way to install a dash kit.

DON will def. hook you up with a great price if you haven't already noticed...I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Ahhh thats were I was thinking also!... I threw my Bluetooth adapter in there for the moment...

Where are you going to position the Center Channel speaker? I was thinking of that speaker also but I cant think of a spot to put it in. I thought of putting it maybe under the dash on the drivers side but dont know how that would sound... any ideas?

blue tooth adapter I just threw in the back near the bottom.

The speaker I'm probably going to put in the left corner or on the center of the dash infront of the clock. Maybe ceiling mount it somehow?? haha not sure..i'd have to get it first and play around with it.

What length did you get your RCA cables going to the amps? 16ft? I dont want to get something too big... I think these would reach right? 23 ft sounds like I would have too much left over...

hey guys, for the bluetooth speaker, do you guys have a little grille looking area to the right of the steering column? i was thinking of pulling that off and putting the speaker behind there. though it may be a pain to remove since it would require removing the entire dash assembly (including the gauge cluster i think).

NICE! are you getting the avn5510bt or the avn6610bt?
haha need a bigger opening for the speaker probably...not enough room back there for a speaker really....at least something that will give you some more sound.

going for the 5510bt sincei don't need dual zone, and i don't need dual dvd drives. figure i'll save the money on that. yeah in regards to that location fo rthe speaker it was just a thought. i cn' tthink of many other locations to place it that wouldn't require some fabrication to the dash.

wow, i can't type on this laptop, horrible spelling there.

i'm just going to sit it on the dash somewhere...it's small enough. I tried doing the stealth thing by putting it where the stock tweeter is (my 1" speaker)...it worked but the speaker was TOO QUIET.

Thought so.... Thanks!!

I was also contemplating maybe drilling a whole in the center console and putting in the speaker on the side of the console facing the driver, i dont know how that would look or sound though... so id rather not... Plus I dont think it would fit anyway.

welp, i pulled the trigger on the first part. ordered the gxe dash assembly. getting a final tally on cost from don (going with the 6610bt since the 5510bt is not in stock and potentially won't be for a few weeks). I'm excited, but at the same time, there's always that notion of buyers remorse hoping i'll get the full use from the deck.

once you get it in (are you doing the install yourself?) you'll be ECSTATIC. it's a sweet unit and if you have questions about it you got a couple of guys that know how to use it already and have installed it already.

YOU DEF. made the right choice...i've gone through 2 navi systems before ECLIPSE...it's by far the most accurate/intuitive.

yeah, i'm definitely psyched about a solid nav unit, plus, seeing that the ipod control is solid, well that's just icing on the cake.

yeah i'll be doing the install myself. i'll prolly have to bug you guys about the vss wire locations (or i'll just find it on the forums, i need to become a donating member so i can get the better search features).

thanks again for the help with making my decision.

Question about installation

Hey guys, im kinda late but I want to buy the D3 and install it in my 01 Max. Why does best buy, and crutchfield say that it doesnt fit the car when many people on this forum installed it on a 5 gen? Also, for those who paid installers, how much did they charge? Are there any mods to the factory wiring during the installation that I should know about?

i was thinking about getting a d3, i went to circuit city and i really didnt like the menus and the nav looked like a hot mess.

the eclipse on the other hand looked a lot more organize, but i dont think it had as many features, or atleast i couldnt figure it out in the short time i was at the store. anyway i searched thru this site and it seems a lot of people like the eclipse, but i search thru avic, and i guess

but anyway why did you guys go with the eclipse when you could of chose the avic ???

^^i think mainy because of how easy it is to bypass that security feature while driving...With the eclipse you have to ONLY ground the Parking brake wire, (PLUS YOU GET A HARD DRIVE sorry: personal opinion)

hard drive is only the AVN7000...which is a single din FLIPOUT.

the eclipse NAVIGATION is very very precise...the only thing I hate about it is that I can't search by POI. I can search by POI NAME but not POI itself. For example...I can't search the nearest Italian restaurant but I can search it if I know the name of it. The POI's do show up on the screen if you set it up though..
And 6.3" screeen vs. a 7" screen (eclipse) is NO COMPARISON!

yea you've got a point there. Have you upgraded to the AVN 7000 or something? Im hoping the next one will EXTREMELY well developed (In dash of course, W/ a hard drive, and the bluetooth quirkiness fixed)

I had the AVN5435, the AVN6600, and now the AVN6610.
DEF anxiously waiting for the built in bluetooth as the parrot kit one is kinda clumsy if you use amps to power your speakers. I've found a way around it but man what a journey it was to get it right.
