2001 Sub qestion

Whats up guys. I just bought a 01 AE about 2 months ago and i love the bose but would like to upgrade the sub. Is it possible to get a 8" sub into there with a different amp powering it. Or would i be better off just putting my 2 12" jl in the trunk? Thanks for your help.

Probably best off putting in the 12's unless you're ready to have less bass than what the 12's provided.

9maxima5,
I hope you dont mind if I hijack your thread since you have already have your question answered (I'm new and apparently not allowed to post new threads).

I have a 2000k Maxima and the 8" sub is not working properly. Sometimes its works fine, sometimes it sounds like the sub has been blown (not clean bass, lots of rattles) and sometimes the sub doesnt work at all. I am not sure if its the sub itself, the amp or maybe the wiring. Can anyone help identify the problem?

I would like to have a subtle upgrade and fix the problem and not spend more than $300 if possible. Is there anything difficult about swapping out the stock amp and 8" sub for an after-market sub and amp??

Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions!

David

I had the same problem with my 01 Bose sub and many did as well. You can do a search and you'll probably find many. There was 1 post of a fix, but it seems it didn't worked out for most people and I can't remember the link. What I did do was that I brought a used good condition 00/01 Bose sub for $50 on maxima.org and replaced it with mines (not sure if 02/03 model works as well). Been using it for over 2 months and seems great to me. Even though some people would argue that Bose sucks.
Many would suggest putting in an after-market sub and amp for better bass. If you want to find another 8" for that sub hole, you can buy a 8" freeair sub and replaced it with that one then power it up with an aftermarket amp. Or you can get louder bass and get the bigger subs and put them in the trunk. Do a search for aftermarket amp + sub... there's so many post of those. Good Luck!

Shouldn't cost you more then $300 for an aftermarket amp and sub, unless you're going for the expensive ones.

Thanks notuptodate guy!
I dont really want to take up my trunk space. I think I gave up the dream of 2 10" in the trunk after high school.

Anyone have suggestions on a replacement 8" sub and amp for under $300?

When I do a search for freeair subs, nothing really comes up. Would this kicker comp work http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2446 What should I be looking for?

Thanks
