Need to replace rear speakers on a 4th gen, dont want to take seats out, suggestions?

My rears are shot to $hit, bought the car like that and the speakers are all stock, the front tweeters and 5 1/4's are fine, just wanna replace the rears.

I have read the instructions but that involves removing the rear seats and everything in the back deck. The speaker covers (plastic squares over the stock speakers) look like easy access.

Problem: i dont want people to see that i have aftermarket speakers in my max and assume i have subs (which i dont) and try to steal it (happened before) so i want to reuse the plastic covers

can the covers be peeled off, speakers simply unscrewed, and th4e covers reused ?

Why do you have to take the rear seats out? You can access your rear speakers through the trunk without removing much of anything except the Bose amps and the speakers. Unless Nissan did something completely different on the 4th gens (I have a 95) after mine, I can get at my rear speakers easily through the trunk. Even if you had to take the rear seats out, its not that hard to do. Pull the tabs down under the bench seat, should be 2 of them, one on each side and then take the bench out. You should see 2 bolts with washers attached to the rear seats, unscrew them and pull up on the rear seat, move the seatbelts out the way and voila out they come, 5 minute job at the most.

You must be eluding to the rear deck lid which yes you would have to remove the back seats to get at. Once you got it out and since you want to change your speakers out back there, might as well if you have some throw some deadening back there as well, trust me depending upon what type of speakers you put back there, it will make a difference.

And yes you can remove the covers and reuse them, will require the use of some type of adhesive to secure them back down. The only way people know you will have aftermarket speakers is if you let them know or they go in your trunk and they see them and if you want put the speakers in a baffle and then secure them back in place, then no one will know.

To remove the speakers you must remove the rear seats. You have 6.5's in the front and rear. 95's may be different and I kno non bose can be done without removing the rear seats.

Ditch the rear speakers altogether and go with a 3-way front soundstage.

Uh... thats a huge jump from replacing rears to going 3 way... You have to look at what his needs are not what you would do.

umm I DON'T HAVE BOSE, should have made that clear from the beginning thats my fault.

Ok, I thank you guys for trying to help but I think i am missing something here, my car is a 97 GXE NO BOSE. The rear speakers are located inside the rear deck lid, i can see them through the plastic covers that are glued to the deck lid itself, there are 4 phillips screws that hold each speaker down, they must be unscrewed from the inside of the car, this is impossible to do so from the trunk because the screws are sticking out backwards in there.

In order to get them removed the seats must be removed, after which the rear deck lid comes off to which the plastic covers are screwed to. I would like to know if that can be avoided by ripping out the plastic covers and then re-gluing them after i am done. Do you guys this this would be messy and the glue would be visible if i do a sloppy job ?

Does anyone have a write up in detail or even with pics on how to remove the rear seats and replace those busted a$$ speakers?

You can most likely remove those covers without doing anything special just pry them up gently till they give.

rear deck lid is clipped on not glued. It's also being held by the c pillars's tabs that stick down through it. It takes some maneuvering but it comes off and doesn't require any glue removal. the deck lid is much easier to pry off after you remove the back seat. iirc

iirc i had to take my rear seats out to get my erar deck speakers (non bose). either way, its really not a big deal, i can get the rear seats out in about 5 minutes... who cares??? its like a few bolts, screws and release clamps.

Exactly. It only takes 5-10 minutes to get it all out anyway so why try to think of a way to get it out without removing the seats/pillars. It is probably easier to just take it out.

im pretty sure you gotta remove the seats and the back top cover to access the rear speakers. it was not that bad for me. took maybe 20 mins to get it all out. the plastic panels are a ***** btw..

Alright, well heres my story. I removed the lids, just pry them out. There are four screws in the corners of the lids holding them in. When you pry, they will just come out of the thin cheap wood thats there. Then, take the screws out of the lid, and the lid will go back into the holes. It shouldn't come out. Mine haven't for over 6 months...Hope that helps!!

You dont have to take the seats out, its just difficult. The only issue I had was what I just mentioned. They aren't secured, so if you lifted on them, then sure, they would come out, but from there on out, you should be good to go.

Oh, and with them easy-out style, if you ever need to get to them, then you dont ahve to remove the seats again!
