The sub will and SHOULD only round out the sound. You don't need it to play midbass just strictly low end.

FOUND the culprit of no-bass...

Simply because the power wire was connected to (- , -) on the amp.

I have bass now, but I think it's running at 4Ohm so that'll be fixxed soon. BUT still I'm happy anyways just because I have some bump in da trunk lol.

Solid Audio F11D amp. I don't have the manual with me and can't find one online...

The configuration of the amp is...

+ <---------Sub Pos
| <---------Sub Neg
+
|

Right now I have the power wire hooked up to the first set of pos. neg as shown.

Unsure of how to wire it as 1Ohm.

How is it currently "running at 4Ohm"? Doesnt matter much on the amp..its the sub that dictates that. How is the sub wired?

so you only wired it to one coil? it'll work, but the other coil will start to act like a magnet and hinder the cone movement...

here do this:

it'll bring the sub down to a 1 ohm load.

Thanks AscendantMax I will go check the wiring out on the sub

Btw Don I was just taking a guess lol, because I don't think it's running at 1Ohm. It's just not hitting hard enough...

How did you derive that only one coil is wired? What did I miss now?

Uh oh...so what do I do?

Is the picture for the sub wiring correct though? Don't want to accidentally blow anything.

she said sub neg to amp neg, and sub pos to amp pos?

Jess, did you wire the two set of terminals on the sub together in any fashion?

2.3 cu ft "sealed"

The sub was wired correctly neg to neg and pos to pos. So everything is as it should be.

For some reason I thought I was going to have this ear splitting bass?? Maybe just expecting too much LoL it sounds great SQ wise!

It'll just take me a while to get used to the EQ settings though and make it sound the way I want to.

Is your sub a DVC or not? If it IS a DVC, HOW is the sub wired INSIDE of the box?

Sub specification look for Dual 2

So yes DVC I think.

https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraud...iew.shopscript

The actual sub it's self has wiring pos to pos and neg to neg just like in the picture AscendantMax put up.

Edit to add: Has anyone else experienced the tweeters clipping? It just sounds that way to me, it cuts out when the volume is at 26+ but anything lower is fine. That's as loud as I listen to it anyways, but just wondered.

Yep the sub is good to go so far.

I'll have them look at it. I think it's from the amps.

I have the bass turned up using the headunit, and had LeX mess with the settings on the amp. But the frontstage is really overpowering the sub IMO. I mean I know music isn't supposed to be pure bass, but wondered if there were any other steps?

A video will be posted in a few mins.

NEW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYBR320siBw

OLD: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0-0tv9KaITc

There's the video using the same song which is easier for comparison. The music doesn't really sound distorted when the bass hits like it does on the video. Camera mic is probrably doing that.

Once again the low rumble is my exhaust and not the bass.

The bass is very clean as is the mids/highs.

Tomorrow I'll take video of the car in the day time, so you can hear the rattles. It's not too bad at all.

Very happy with the way it sounds so far, other than the tweeter issue.

well sounds like you picked up ALOT of sub-bass. I forgot how much juice you have on the sub...but with that box size...your low end is ridiculous while your upper end extension is lacking which makes it "appear" to not be loud. However, this is actually good because your Rainbows can play the upper bass notes just sounds it sounds like. If you want more upper bass from the sub, stuff some wood in there and test it out.

How much wood should go in there? Just a small plank?

The sub is getting 1100W RMS from the Solid Audio amp...so it's within spec.

Actually it's pretty good with the notes, I thought it'd play only the very low notes but I do hear some upper bass notes. I'll try your suggestion though! If not then I can always go to 2.1 cf, the FI site suggests 2.1 - 2.6 for sealed and I just went with whatever was inbetween haha.

well what do you think is lacking? just overall loudness when compared with the rainbows? If so, remember our maximas SUCK for SPL. You should fold down at least 1 seat to alleviate some rattling and gain a ton of bass.

I listened to LeX's 12" blueprint sub when he had it. I think it was in a ported enclosure, but the thing was that I could "feel" the bass. With my setup it's more heard than felt. But it's nothing that really bothers me, just wondered.

I guess that's SPL for ya lol, I'd definately say the car is more towards SQ right now. Other than the whole more low-end bass

Didn't really notice a diffrence with the seats folded down. So they're staying up.

What's your opinion on the "setup"?

I guess it's lacking SPL to me, but I can live with it lol don't worry.

I've let a few friends listen to the car and they love the way it sounds. They were suprised it was from a setup they've never heard of. Fi and Rainbow. Hopefully I've turned them from Audiobaun, JL and all that.

Let the sub break in you should get more output. Also going ported generally does increase output quite a bit.. might wanna consider it ?

Alright I'll wait and give it time to break in. I've been playing the hell out of it though lol.

Hmm I would go ported if I could still have a lot of room in the trunk. It's still my daily grocery getter.

Oh and I'll post up another video after the break in.

Where exactly is the sub box? even my idiot friends can EASILY tell when I fold down a seat...it should be a night and day difference.

In the trunk, facing the rear.

I'm not saying there isn't a difference, there is. But not so much that I'd leave the seats down for it

where exactly? right by the tailights, or pushed up against the rear seats? You still should notice a significant difference with the seats down.

Oh! Well it's pushed up against the rear seats.

Inuyasha is on AdultSwim gotta watch that!

I'm in this weird CD/music testing mode where I've just been putting in whatever music I can find just to listen for the differences in the new system. It's definately more clear than anything.

Damn I've turned to the dark side...

Ah took me a while, but I've got a new and better video up!

Box isn't what I planned for, but is built to spec which is good for now. I plan on going fiberglass next year.

Are the gains not set right? Or are you still breaking in the sub? It seems like it needs some tweaking.
