i30 hu for 5th gen. fitment.

i was at this local radio repair shop. he had a i30 hu looks exactly the same from
5th gen. he claims it won't fit the max. even though they have the same part # the facia is different...somehow i don't believe him. Please clear this up for me.

he actually wanted to bet me for it...if it doesnt fit he takes my hu...if it does i keep it. he sounded so convincing that i chickened out..damn it.

It will mount (and power) up but I don't think the fascia will line up with the dash.

Good thing you chickened out because the guy is right - it will not fit. The previous poster, djfrestyl, is correct. I bought a Max HU to replace my broken I30 HU and the Max HU fascia was not wide enough for my dash. The unit powered up and worked fine, but it definitely did not fit. I ended up having to return it. If you tried to install the I30 HU in your Max, it would be slightly too wide.

If you are looking to buy this HU, one thing you could do is take the fascia off your current unit (assuming it works) and put it on the I30 HU. Although I have never done this myself, I think it can be done.

Doubt it - chances are high that the buttons of each fascia do not line up with each other.

It's not a matter of the buttons lining up because the whole face comes off and is connected to the HU via a single connector. See pic below. (Sorry the pic is so small - click on it and it will link you to a larger pic!)
