fuse blowing

I have a JL 13w7 sub and amp. I'm running a 4ga amp kit. This is the second time a 100-amp fuse blew. The first time(the original fuse) blew when my friend hooked up his MP3 player directly to the amp. Yesterday I blew the spare 100-amp fuse that he replaced mine with. How much higher can I go and stay safe? BTW, this is a MAXI-style fuse and fuse holder. Would there be any difference if I should swap it out with an ANL style?

What is the current draw of your amplifier? You shouldn't have any need to go higher than 100 sounds like there is a short somewhere.

How can I help you answer that question? What should I do to check it?

ya that amp is not drawing anywere near 100amps if it is thats most your cars power.. check to make sure that were the power wire cuts threw the fire wall and anyother sharp metal, that it did not cut into the wire. you dont want a fire.

before the fuse blew, when I turn it up, all the lights dim, and with the volume turned up the song would like cutoff, at first I thought its the HU skipping the CD, but it doesnt do it on lower volume, so I assume its a power issue and the fuse is the weakest link

the manual says to use a 100amp ANL style, I have 100amp MAXI style? would it make a difference?

That wouldn't be enough to over - power the 100 amp, are you sure the fuse that was put in from your friend was a 100 amp?

it says 100amp. I went to a local install shop and he told me that im over powering the amp. and thats why the fuse is blowing, he told me I have the gains set too high. Also the output voltage from the PAC unit doesnt match the gain or something like that.... for example the PAC unit could put out 4V and the gain on the amp is set to 2V and thats a ...thats what the dude told me

but I searched and searched and couldnt find how much the PAC unit puts out

It still shouldn't draw 100 amps.

im pretty certain those amps draw over 100 amps. Try a bigger fuse, are you running 2 amps? or just the 1000/1?

and where were your gains set?

JL rcommends a 100 amp fuse, don't think its capable of pulling over 100 amps.

I have just a single 1000/1. I dunno how to read the setting of the input sensitivity(theres no markings)... but its like about a 1/4 of a turn from the left.

anybody have a 0dB sine wave they can send me? Im gunna try doing what it says in the manual.

they got some 0dB sine waves you can download. try the DMM method that JL talks about. a 50 hz wave will do.
