Compustar remote start/alarm kits...

So whats the general view on Compustar and its alarm/remote start kits? I have not heard too much about it like the way I hear about Viper and Clifford. Does anyone here have a Compustar system and if so, how do you like it?

There are a few people on here who have Compustar and like them, but the real answer is buy DEI or don't buy at all. They are the largest marketer of vehicle security for a reason...their quality and service pwns.

lawl. sounds like installer error..

I put one in the girly's car, and well, it works the way it should, but im getting annoyed with it -

It takes a really long time for the car to respond to the remote, like when i press trunk release, theres a good 5 second pause before the trunk is actually popped (the reason why is because compustar didnt add a relay for the trunk output, i had to put one in because it was high drive, or reverse polarity or something, cant remember)... but either way, thats unacceptable. Same thing with doorlocks, theres a small pause from when you hit unlock that it actually unlocks (double pulse for nissans, but still). I know its the alarm, cus I have a CodeAlarm piece on my max and its instant reactive, trunk and locks.

So in other words, i love my CodeAlarm 1 way, but for 2 ways, Im sure the best is Clifford, Viper, etc. It will be my next 2-way piece if i ever get one.

I have a compustar on my max and i have had no problems with it, works well and i have had it for 6 years now. The only complaint i have is sometimes the pager takes a while to communicate with the module in the car, other than that it works well.

I dont think it was the installer he is very reputable and he does them all the time he has been in bussiness for like over 20 years in the same location. The only thing when I looked at the install is he uses t-taps which is not the best way to install alarms in my opinion.

not a big fan of compustars. There big and bulky. Range is minimal, remote is too big, alot of things i dont like about them, but hey everyone has there opinions. Im a dei fan all the way i think there products are designed much better than the compustars, however i dont follow up on them so i dont know about the current models that are out. Believe me there not that bad, this would be my second choice if for some reason a dei product was unavailable. Theres tons of worse out therebut for me id have to go dei.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with using T-taps, if used correctly. For the amount of time saved during the install its worth it for the 1 out of every 75 customers to come back for a failed t-tap, a 2 minute fix. Even the almighty Don uses T-taps..

Dcman, how can you say comustars' range is minimal??? just like DEI, they have one model that has more than a 1 mile range. plenty if you ask me.. even the 3000'-ers are under rated.

dunno man.

they're powered antennas, I know that much.

If they arent plugged in they wont work at all. Not even if you're standing near the car.

So I have decided to go w/ the Avital 4400. It has everything I basically need and its DEI. Someone told me Compustar went out of business 3 years ago so Im guessing what ever is for sale are the left overs.

Compustars are excellent alarms... to the guy that said he needed 3 units replaced.. maybe he had a fake compustar... there's lots of replica's out there.

I actually replaced my 791xv for a compustar PRO alarm.

That series is still current. The 2WFMR is goin to be phased out so anything else in the Compustar lineup you can "upgrade" do without redoing the install, just changing the remote and antenna. FYI - the Pro Series would require a new install.
