Amp prob

just hooked up a sony xplod xm-2200gtx 1200 watt amp and it sounded amazing for about 10 mintues. then it kicks off for some reason. since i have to remote wire on a toggle i quickly reset the amp while im driving and for some reason it will only stay on when my volume level is on 2 then protection comes on. i cannot seem to adjust the levels enough to make it sound right and give enough bass. all the fuses are fine and none of the wires are loose. idk what else to do

thanks for the help

what are your gain setings, sounds like your gains are cranked and your going into over protection. if you have highvolts and your gains are turned up all the way your going into overprotection. and why is your amp power on, on a toggle?

also could be your ground, if you have a voltometer that tests ohm resistance, get a piece of wire that will reach from the negative batt terminal to the trunk, first test the ohm resistance of the wire, remember it, then hook it up to the negative battpost, in the trunk test the ohm reistance from the negative ground wire to the battery terminal. (subtract the wire you used to reach the battery terminal from the total. could be a grounding issue.

so it goes off only when you turn it up, or by itself randomly? which is it?

basically sounds like an amp that cant take a load = bad amp.

i can get it to work when the gain settings are down but they gotta be practically all the way turned down. and its the remote wire is on a toggle so if for some reason im behind a cop or hes behind me i can turn off my amp and still listen thru my speakers. plus the neighbors complain.

@mendon
It turns off right when the subwoofers pounds. i will hear like half of a beat and protection comes on

yeah so its probably either your gain is much too high, and if not, more than likely the amp is bad. Its common with the xplod amps.

OR just simply the wrong impedance. What sub configuration?

true hes pulling to much power from the amp and its overloading. probably has the bass boost up and hes runing it at 1 ohm with the gains high. if he bridge it its only 4 ohm stable and if he has the thunderform 4500 box, its 2 ohms.....

Has nothing to do with levels if your impedance isnt properly matched.

ohm load to much, if those are single 4 ohm subs, do not bridge them if dual 4 ohm run stereo mode....
