How well do the AVN6610/5510 Ipod Controls work?

So I'm in the market to get either an Eclipse AVN5510(bt), Eclipse AVN6610(bt), or Pioneer AVIC-D3. I will primarily be using it with my 80gig ipod video. I know the Pioneer AVIC-D3 has great handling of the ipod via the touchscreen. I've been able to see several demos of this on youtube, however I haven't seen anything about the eclipse decks' ipod controls, and how it works with ipods in general. The posts here on the board as they relate to the AVN5510 or AVN6610 don't say much about how well the ipod support is and how it works with your playlists, or searching for songs, etc. I also haven't been able to find much in way of the video portion of the ipod working with the eclipse decks like they do with the pioneer avic d3. Most of the pics folks on the board have taken seem to be primarily of the eclipse decks' gps maps.

So I ask, any of you with the eclipse decks that have ipods hooked up to them, could you please post your thoughts on how well it works, and what level of controls you have (as well as whether or not you can view the videos from your video ipod)

Thanks!

Sorry I have to interject, the D3 has got it covered as far as IPOD control goes. I haven't messed with either of the Eclipse HU's you mentioned but just wanted to throw in my opinion regarding the D3...

Gents, I definitely appreciate the responses regarding the D3 as it is one of the options that I'm looking at, but i really need that info for those two eclipse decks. Unfortunately, it looks like not many people use ipods with their navi-equipped ICE decks, specifically the people with either of those eclipse decks. Maybe burnurass will chime in.

Anyway, I suppose the best thing to do is to go to a local shop that sells those decks and ask if I can't hook up my Ipod video and give it a go. I"ll try and do that tomorrow in case no one else with the same eclipse decks + ipod responds.

Thanks again though for the input on the D3.

i'v heard the d3 has the best integration of the models you mentioned. The older eclipses didn't have the best ipod integration but that would have changed. i'd get the alpine ONLY because you need it for you ipod.

i have yet to play with the ipod on an ecilpse...I believe don did and he said it was quick..but no where as near as quick as the alpines with the FULL SPEED ipod connectors. If you don't try it out soon I probably will...I need to buy an ipod first. LOL

Hey there Burn..

All of the local shops that sell the AVN5510/6610 didn't have any on display, and further more, NONE of them could comment on the ipod integration. I'm shocked just far at how few people use their ipod with this deck. I will admit, there are more capable portal music players out there, but the ipod is the "most compatible" and supported, which is why I went with it.

Anyway, I may just get the pioneer deck and take the chance with possible engine whine issues. At least I know it's media integration is pretty solid and the nav is pretty good too. So far everyone on these boards that have spoke up about their D3 seems to dig it pretty well.

I still say go with the AVN6610...the d3 screen is SOOOO SMALL. It's not even 6.5" You might say .5" isn't that much of an increase..but it really is. (Came from a 6.5"). YOU CANNOT buy better navigation than ECLIPSE. I'm sure you'll be happy with the ipod adapter with ECLIPSE. The PIONEER ipod adapter doesn't do video either...

The sounds show up like a normal Mp3 CD does I think...
If you don't like it i'm sure you could flip it on ebay for almost the same price as you got it at the price DON would give it to you for. I'm going to get the ipod adapter soon...

Then, perhaps I shall wait until either one of you get your ipod and/or adaptor. Gah, I just need to do something soon, it is killing me not having music. I thought about maybe just getting one of those eclipse 7100 units, and saying scratch the video/navigation, but it uses the same ipod adaptor i believe, so if the ipod control/navigation sucks on one it will suck on the other.

I do look forward to hearing youse guys' findings.

Thanks gents.

on the smaller screen, but... I came from a 7in screen and it's really not that bad. And the Ipod on the D3 does do video. Bad thing is you have to control it from the ipod itself.

I personally would have gone with the Eclipse 5510 Since almost everything else in my car is (amp/components). But for the price, features, flawless Ipod integration, and extras (free camera) for a tiny bit over $1000... I couldn't pass up a great deal.

I did notice the screen being a bit smaller from my N2 but it doesn't bother me.
And the Pionerr IPOD adaptor for the D3 does do video (top rt. corner of my pic) You do have to control the video with the IPOD itself, pretty much the only drawback I've found with the D3...
(oops didn't read the post above first!!)
