Ok, i have decided mounting the amp / capacitor to the sub box is the worst idea ever. I want to install it to the car itself, to make sure that the + / - wires NEVER move, therefor, never become disconnected. Then, have your speaker wire run to the box.

Does anyone have theres setup like this?


I was thinking about taking the back seat of my 99 maxima out, then drilling holes in the metal, then mount the amp to the metal (inside the trunk side), then place the seat back. Has anyone done this setup? Also, I am getting a 4 channel amp for my mids and tweets rather then running it off my deck... Should this be placed in the trunk aswell??? Better place to put your 4 channel amp??? or amps period?


Will someone PLEASE reply with a good idea on where to mount 1 (maybe 2) amps + 1 cap to the car NOT to the sub boxes????

Similar to your idea...got a board and wrapped it in carpet. Mounted that to the back seat, then mounted the amp to that board.

My other amp in the trunk:
borrowed the idea from nismos14's 4th gen. All it is is two boards wrapped in carpet then mounted to the trunk.

Well as you stated to place the amp below the seats that's very useful. I actually have two amps placed under each seat (duh). and also a third (mini one hopefully out soon of my car, for a bigger one) below the stereo inside the dash. Personally those three are the best places since you don't really use that space and if you do a good ground on the amp you don't even have to take out the seats. I did my ground for my MTX TC600.1 by putting a 4 awg cable below one bolt that seats the emergency brake. It works just fine. Just connect everything in place then route the cables trough the arm rest (where the emergency brake is ). It will help to take out the cup holder so you can pull/slide cables from there to your stereo and batt + . for me the trunk it isn't a good Idea. I use it for many things once I even put a 6 cylinder engine on it jaja.

The amps I have is MTX tc600.1 and a Diamond Audio 400.4, and the mini one doesnt count jajaj it is a 100 max watt so real samll to power my center speakr

While I can appreciate the devensive standpoint, do you really think "cant afford JL" was the best tactic? Theyre really not pricey and One he has in there now holds nearly the value of two of the slash amps (1000/1 aside)..

To go a bit further One of my amps would equate to three of yours at an SRP level, does that mean it is ok for Me to bash em?

Under the seat??? Wtf? Where do i put my drugs????? Bad idea... No room for a cap under there either... And you bolted it to the floor??? Sounds like a ***** if a wire comes undone from drunk friends or something.

UM...they are just bare wires. lol. I didn't even use connectors...I just unscrewed the terminals and put the wire in there like all other amps... but thanks for the compliment. NOW IF ONLY MY TRUNK WAS THAT NEAT NOW!!

Mine are both under my seats, industrial Velcro FTW, they are fairly small so they get plenty of breathing room and stay cool, ZED audio made us acoustics.

Even if someone wanted to steal them, its pretty hard to yank then out unless you pull the seat and yank up

 

sucks i cant really do that idea... arg, i have to go with my back of the seat idea. Ill let you know how things turn out. Could be shady. I got the afternoon off work. Yay. Ill configure something out. I got a 4 hour car ride on monday morning i will need beats for.

 

My amps are mounted under the seats...but my 15 Farad CAP is mounted on my headers to help gain HP and help with exhaust flow.

 

Normaly I just adjust the Flux Capacitor to gain maximum performence.

 

30 posts and not one person has successfully recommended to the OP to DITCH THE CAP ALTOGETHER. You do not need it. Please rid yourself of it.

Just to summarize, to you, the reason mounting an amp to the back of the box is a bad idea is because your box moves around and therefore yanks on your power cables? Here's an idea - secure down your box??

FIrst off, square boxes are extremely over-rated when it comes to accoustics. You actually lose SPL due to resonance of a box. With that said, form a custom box that will be rounded at the edges and you will actually increase the SPL inside the box with out having to increase box size. Since you are creating a resonant frequency inside the box, look at the type of music you like, do you want superior bass extension or loud impact. If you want the extension look for something with a High Sensitivity and Low Extension Such as the Infinity Kappa Perfects feed those with 100 watts RMS and the right enclosure and it will sound far superior to your Rockfords with 1000 watts in a square box.

Now as far as amp placement. Under the seats are realetively good, except for when you turn the heater on and fry the circuitry with hundred of CFM of hot air hitting it. The size of your amp will largely be based on the Type, efficiency and Wattage. Most of the mainstream amps are bulky mainly due to inefficient designs with added transistors and voltage regulators and larger heat sinks for heat dissapation from the higher wattage.

I personally use Mono amps for every single speaker, yes it costs more but in the long run its easier to diagnose whats wrong and to fix it. Bad places for amps: Engine bay and under seats mainly due to heat dissapation. The best amp placement solution I have seen is the Tray mounted on the top of the trunk. If it is using wire mesh top, bottom and backing, great heat dissapation and also you could lock the tray adding security to the system. Along with boxes that allow for great resonanse at lower frequencies you will have a great sounding form fitting solution.

 

without dissecting and proving most of your theories wrong I will touch on one...your claim of using mono amps for every speaker INVALIDATES everything else you said.
