Best tweeter placement in 4th gen

Im ditching my 10 year old MBQ components and just ordered some Alpine SPX-177R. Right now I have the MBQ's installed in the factory locations and I'm not impressed at all with the sound. I was thinking of installing the tweets close to the woofer and aim the tweets a little off-axis. Im not sure how much fabrication I want to do (fiberglassing, etc.. ) and I'd like to keep it stock looking. Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks
Mike

actually, the factory location for the tweeters will give you much better imaging than if they were mounted close to the mids. if you could fiberglass kickpods and face them towards the center of the car (like a 3-way setup), that would be even better.

Why do you think components sound so much better than coaxials (aside from having crossovers)?

Maybe the MB Quart tweets just suck at off axis response. I guess I'll have to play around with the location once I get the alpine tweets but in my other vehicle I have the tweets located close to the midbass and angled upwards and it sounds great. I'd love to do kick panels but since my car is a 5 speed and its my DD, I like using the dead pedal.

Closer to the mids would be fine, just make sure you have them on the right axis to get the best imaging.

I like the a pillars or kick panels for tweeter location when tweets are real close sometimes the highs can be a little harsh

I have some really schrilly aftermarket tweeters in the A-Pillar factory mount position... should I try and aim them at the glass instead of the cabin?

Remind me of the factory locations again? Generally if you are not going with kicks, A pillars firing across to each other about 2 inches from the highest point on the dash works great...

Play with phase as well...
