1 sub vs. 2
Hey guys... I currently have 2 Alpine-S Type DVC 12"s that are couple years old. They each run 200 RMS at 4 OHMS.
I'm really sick of not having any trunk space, so as I outfit my newly acquired '03 SE, I'm thinking about purchasing a single sub that can give me at least equal performance. I'm a student on a tight-ish budget, so does anyone have any opinions on what one sub(s) I should consider?
It would be really great if I could use my same Alpine monoblock, it runs at 400 RMS at 4 OHMS obviously, and 800 RMS at 2 OHMS I believe.
Thanx in advance!

just fyi 2 10 " subs will usally outproform 1 15" sub. if i was to sugest just 1 sub id say get a kicker comp the round one. run it at 400 rms. should be nice and loud for you probably wont be as loud but sounds like you would port it. if you build the box right you should have a little room in your trunk.

I have a single eD.A and feed it 1200w @ 1ohm... it pounds pretty hard and was the best deal I could find at the time.

THX's suggestion looks like a sweet deal, although it's more than I want to spend. If I couldn't get anything decent for cheaper I might save up for a while longer and go for something like that. It all depends on what you guys think would be comparable to or better than my setup.

There's way too many options out there that if setup properly will outperform the dual 10" setup that you have. You may even be able to utilize ONE of those 10's in a better enclosure and get the results you're looking for. Speaker placement is also a big deal. I would build a box to spec for one of the 10's you have now and mount it in the driverside rear 1/4. Face it towards the passenger side corner. I am 90% sure this will result in the sound you're looking for based on my previous experience with this exact mounting setup in my old vehicle.
Of course this is all subjective, we've all got opinions and its just who's opinion you actually choose to go with.

Sweet, I'm getting a much better idea about what I should be looking for.
As far as using a better enclosure for one of my current ones, which style would be ideal?
I have 12"s by the way not 10"s, I think arkainshadow's post confused everyone.

Here are two that I found, and Eclipse and an Alpine R Type. Same power handling, the Eclipse is more expensive. Is the Eclipse worth the extra money?

Not sure about the Eclipse Aluminum's (Titaniums are pretty Good though but out of your budget). The Type R can handle at least 700RMS if properly suited and not abused. Try the type R in a 3.0 enclosure at 32hz. Good bang for the buck.

I would go without any subs. With a pair of good 6.5" or larger midbass drivers, you should have enough lows. Also, the fact that the subwoofers go in the trunk is a huge drawback. You want all the sound in front of you, just like at a concert.

probably yeah--I'm not even gonna want to listen to Don's system, because I know it's like 10 times better than what I'm gonna get, so I don't want that letdown
