Replacing HU, keeping bose

What kind of adapter do I need to keep the bose speakers and just upgrade the HU? Was looking at some DVD playing JVC HU's, and some TFT monitors as well...

Wow this has never been asked before... did ya search?

Either way you can use the metra 70-7551 with a headunit and utilize the bose speakers. I wouldn't recommend it without a headunit that puts out at least 4 volts, and has front and rear outputs.

Thanks for the info. You know of any DVD playing headunits, that are 4volts or more? I've looked at eclipse, kenwood, and pioneer, but can't really find what I'm looking for.

I will be putting in an Alpine CDE-9843 headunit which is a basic mp3 capable head.

With the Scosche you shouldn't worry about the 4 volts or more as it's not being connected through your pre amp outputs and not utilizing the rca cables. I think the above recommendation of using 4 volts or more applies to systems using the pre amp output's as the higher voltage produces a cleaner sound.

Questions abou the Alpine

00Max,
How do you like the alpine? I am planning on installing the 9885 into my 03 SE soon and wanted to get your input. I have a BOSE and so will have to use the Scosche or Metra adapters for the install.

One question, how did you run the sub signal?

Do you need another adapte to run the sub pre-out the the stock bose sub amp?

Thanks in advance.

I like it. It sounds waaay better than the OEM HU even with the stock BOSE speakers. The menus can be a bit of pain to go through to change settings etc, but you'll get used to it. Also it doesn't have a built in EQ like the Pioneers do, but you can change the bass and treble frequencies and channels.

No need to worry about the sub signal or the bose amp, which powers all the speakers + the amp, btw.
The Scosche takes care of everything.

Where are you buying your HU from? Crutchfield?

yah I figures I would get it at Crutchfield, since they give me the free install kit and instructions, and they have great customer service. I've bought from them before and have been really happy with them.

Would you say your stereo is as loud as it was with the Bose HU?

I am happy with the volum,e the Bose puts out, but have always thought the sound quality was not as sharp as it should be (although the bass response is really good for a factory system). I tried to avoid upgrading but I just HATE not having my ipod music at my fingertips.

Thanks,

Thanks,
It's much louder. With the BOSE, I could turn it up to maximum without distortion. The sound quality will be much better.
