upgrade... need opinion

alpine spr-17s vs jl audio VR650-CSi

these are the two i'm considering. i would like some comparison of the two or if they compare at all. Thanks

oh i also need a head unit upgrade to control my subs. any opinions and pics of your current setups would be appreciated

of the 2, the JLs will sound better, i really have yet to be impressed with a type-R component setup for some reason..

But IMO, get some Rainbow SLC components from Don here on the org, theyre cheaper than both of those and put out a better sound. again, IMO.


Need more info for HU suggestion, like a budget and what you're doing for the system in the future..

well i'm currently running two alpine swr-1242d on an audiobahn amp (forgot the number) but i need more control of the subs. i don't want to have to have them on at all times. also i'm adding the speakers to the inside and probably a 4 channel amp to push them. about the rainbow slc components. what jl products can i compare with as far as quality is concerned and how much are these?

the rainbow SLCs compete with those level JLs i believe, and will sound just as good for less money (better perhaps). I believe Don is still selling them at around $230 a set though. dont quote me.

Whatever deck you choose, make sure it has 3 pair of preouts and sub level control and you'll be all set for sub control and a second highs amp.
