It depends on what part of the U.S. you live in (no joke)
Out here in San Diego, California we charge anywhere between $200-$250.00 for a custom box with 2 10" subs

The question is, how custom are you wanting it to be? If you're looking for a boxto be of a certain height, width, or depth, and not much more, you might find it MUCH cheaper to build it yourself. If you mean custom, with fiberglass, plexiglass, built into the trunk etc, get a pro to do it. If you want to spend an afternoon building it yourself, you could get away with buying all the supplies for under $50, including carpet, wire terminals, etc. One of the main concerns for people building their own, is they dont have the equipment like a tablesaw to cut it themselves. Actually, if you hace a $30 jig saw, you can cut perfectly straight by using a 2x4 as a fence to guide it along. Otherwise, Most Home Depots and Lowes have a really cool saw that allows them to cut the plywood for you. Give them the dimentions for each cut, and they'll do it for you. The ones by me dont even charge you for all the cuts.It really isnt a hard thing to do if you're wanting to build a sealed or ported box, and might be something you want to consider.

I have thought about making my own box but I dont want to have a crappy box and thought it might be better for a pro to build one for me. I still may consider buliding a custom box if its not too hard to do a good job. by 200-250 does that include the building of the box and instillation

As long as the cuts are straight, you can build a box of good quality. Most car audio shops will build it the exact same way you would, believe it or not. As long as you seal the box airtight, your box will be great. And in the end, there is nothing like rolling around knowing you did the work yourself. While I'm not in your area, I would be more than happy to help you out online as much as I can if you deside to do it. And yes, usually that price of $200+ includes installation of an amp, but again, even that isnt very hard to do. Go to www.maximadriver.com and go to the How2 section. There's a writeup on how to install an amp.

Thanks for the info I may really look into making a custom box now. Once the box is made how would I secure it in the car?

There are quite a few different ways you could secure it, all pretty simple. simple metal angle brackets secured with screws are a good way, depending on how you build the box, and what it's going to butt up against.

Would it be best to remove the plastic lining out of the trunk to install the system?

Check my post about the ESX brand in your other posting. Also check out the forums at www.teamamp.com , and at forum.elitecaraudio.com . There have been many great things said about it. They have a demo for sale, and they emailed me a price for it, and its a really really good deal.

No, it was one they used to show people what it looks like. Probably has been connected and used some, but would have the full warantee as if it were brand new. Buying demos is a great way of saving some cash.

Well, since it can do 575wattsx1 at 4ohm, I figure that it would be pushing well over 1000wattsX1 at 2ohm. get a pair of 4ohm subs, and I think it would rattle the fillings out of your teeth My suggestion is to post that question over at www.teamamp.com and you should be able to get a more imformed answer by someone who currently owns one, but it really would be more than enough, imo......

Thanks The audiobauhns only come in 6ohms is that a proble? How about the the 1500W MTX mono amp would it also be a good choice for the 800W subs?

I dont see why it would be a prob. Just means that the amp will run at 3 ohms. No biggie. Ya, I would think the MTX would do well too. Are you planning on doing any SPL contests with your setup? or is it just for your listening?

It will mainly be for personal listening but I have thought of maybe entering it in a competition. Would it hurt the subs if i didnt give each 800W?

Only if they are WAY underpowered(Like 150 watts each) and pushed too hard. as long as ample amounts of power are being sent to them, they'll be fine.

I agree and disagree with certain aspects of this post. Yes, if you know the dimensions that you want, and you are fairly inclined with the use of a tablesaw or jigsaw, then there is nothing to it. However, don't use Plywood for a box. Use 3/4" to 1 1/4" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). It is much better, a whole hell of a lot sturdier, cheaper too. Just don't get it wet. It basically consists of pressed and glued sawdust.

Aight How much can I expect to pay for building a custom box? Would a box where both subs are at about a 45 degree angle from the center board be a good setup?

Not really. In order to get close to the 1ohm load, you would need 4 of the 6ohm subs, which would them bring the load to 1.5 ohm. 4 4ohm subs would run at 1ohm, as would 2 2ohm subs.

well, it varies from amp brand to amp brand. But usually, power doubles when the Ohm drops by half. So, that being said, if its 1500 watts at 2 ohms, it would be 750 watts at 4 ohms.I'd say that it would Roughly be around 1k watts. Again thats roughly. I dont know the model# or specs of the amp you're looking at. Maybe someone else on here thats more familiar with the MTX could help. Thats still a ton of power. And just because the subs can take 800 watts RMS, doesnt't mean that you would be able to use all of it unless you're at a show. What are you planning on running for the rest of the system? what about speakers up front? Will you be running them off an amp, or the radio?

OK, I just looked up your amp, and the 1500 watts is only at 14+ volts. at the normal 12+ volts ( what our cars run at) its running 1000 watts at 2 ohms. That means that each sub would get around 500 watts each,(similar to the ESX amp). The only time it would jump higher is during peaks.
