My Set-Up = Sony CDX-L550X Head Unit 52x4 on Stock Bose Speaker System

Now, when my volume is all the way, I hear sqeaking from the speakers... It's very disturbing and often times my radio doesnt seem to be getting enough juice to run the CD player and will shut off. My only fix to have it play CD's when this happens is to turn on my driving lights.

I beleive that it must be the alternator.

If so, should I just get another stock alternator or should I get a high performance alternator?

thank you...

-Beat

The only way to know what the problem is is to test the charging system with a multimeter.

This is definitely a wiring issue. Bad ground or something. If turning on another current draining optional equipment item gives you more power at the headunit? ? ? How do you have the headunit wired? Maybe even a voltage regulator dieing. Maybe it isn't turning the alternator on until you drop to a voltage lower than where the headunit's own safety switches itself off. If all the wiring is good I may go to an alternator shop to get the full vehicle wiring and regulator checked.

I installed the radio in myself. First time I've ever done it and I know I made two mistakes (now that you mention grounding).

After dealing with this whole wiring fuss for about 3 hours, the only way that I could get sound was completely disregarding the ACC-ON wire, then I intertwined the ground(black)/battery(red) wires together and thats the way it worked, so thats the way I left it.

Could this be the motherload?

If so, I'll have proffessionaly re-wired.

Big mistake. You are wiring the ground with the power wire. Bad idea. You can suffer some serious electric failure if you don't change it. Go get rewired by a professional or drop me an e-mail and I will look it up for you and tell you what color wires to connect in order to wire it properly.

I'll look for a diagram that I made of what the wires on the radio are and what the wires on the car are (according to a pdf posted here on the board). Then, I'll show you how I connected them all and you can give me some input.

I appreciate the help.
