Need some help with a first time system...
Hey guys...
My friend has a 94 Saab 900 and got a pretty basic system. He has the stock Saab radio with 2 12" JBL's in back not sure what kinda amp but he said something about 4 ohms...He said he didn't put any bass blockers in just wired it the rear speakers or sumthin...
Since I've heard his and other peoples systems I've dedicated the next few months to saving up for one.
I want to get something simple. To start off with I want to keep my 40 part of the seat free for skis and snowboards. SO i'm guessing all i should get is a single 15 or 12. Money is the main issue in my case so....
He said he paid about 120 for his amp which is the best of the cheaper amps. He paid 85.00 per sub. and 60 for the enclosure. What should i look for when buying a sub and amp? I want something that will last and bump of course...he said bass blockers arent important true? also he wires it to the rear speakers is this right or???

Well, are you planning on keeping the stock radio, and stock speakers? Or are you going to upgrade them all as well.Is the stock system BOSE? There are some great brands out there that are inexpensive that sound great. If you do plan on keeping the stock setup, I would stick with nothing larger than a 12". Even then your system will be really unbalanced. I may pi$$ people off with this next comment but there is more to music than bass!!!!!!! A nice clean 10" sub will give you great clean bass, that will not overpower the rest of the system if it's stock. But it wont rattle windows the the homes down the block either. What do you want out of your system? Answering questions like this will help us and you to build the system you want.
I personally had a single 10 in my ride and that sucker rocked the house!!! I had a signle JL 10W0 in a sealed box, about 1cu.ft. and powered it with an old RF amp. The amp was rated at about 200Wx1. That thing was way loud, so a single 10 with the right amount of power and box will definitely satisfy all your bass needs. When you are looking at amps, I would look for something that is in the 150-250W range and a sub what will take that kind of power. Brands to consider when looking for subs would by JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate and there are plenty of others. Some amps to consider, Rockford Fosgate, MTX and there are others as well. The manufacturers listed are probably ones you can get cheaper than others. The JL's are cheap when you get the W0 series. The Fosgate amps and subs are at Best Buy, go and check those out and I believe Circuit City has MTX so go there to check those out.
I have the stock system, not Bose.
Since I'm 16 and have a pretty expensive car all my money is going towards insurance and gas and since all of myne went into the car itself I have no money at this point saved up(that i can spend, means no touching college fund).
Well I want to get the same thing he got except with only 1 sub, he has 2 and i need one seat free from obstructure the 40 part prefeably.
This may sound dumb but I know some of you want clean bass, honestly I want something that will bump hard so people can feel me
I know this is ricy but I'm being honest. The stock system is excellent for music IMO so if I'm driving alone I'm just gonna tune down the bass and have it just like normal since I didn't put any blockers on the speakers.

You don't want to put bass blockers on a sub... that pretty much defeats the purpose of deep, loud, thumping. However, you do want to put bass blockers on a tweeter or other speaker to protect it from ultra-lows that will otherwise blow the speaker.
For crisp, clean, loud, bass you want some sort of active crossover (either built in to the amp or as a separate unit) preferably with bass boost... and set the crossover point appropriately.
As far as rear speakers are concerned, you can amp the rears without bassblockers to get full range. Not too sure what you're asking though.

amp has a built-in electronic crossover.
If you're gonna use just one sub, you can power another 2 channels... so you might look into new components for the fronts. Then you can do the 2x300 + 1x600 config.
I'm not too familiar with that amp, but from looking at the spec, it'll put out more than enough power.
Yeah, one of my friends has 2 of these Legacy amps, 1 has 1000watts and the other has 800 watts and they power 2 1000watt Legacy subs. I can hear his car from block away which is probably what your looking for.
As for a sub, I would look at either Infintiy Perfects, JL Audio, and Kicker.

The only thing I would suggest is that you not power your speakers with any cheap brand of amp. For the subs..it doesn't matter if the amp is distorted because all it's producing is bass so a cheap amp is fine.
But for the speakers you want to have a clean and clear signal which a cheap amp just will not produce.
