Suggestions from the experts.....

I have the stock non-BOSE system in my 01 SE and have an Eclipse 5504 CD Tuner from my other car to install into it. I also have a Fosgate Punch 100 (2 years old) but not much else yet. I'm planning to install Boston Acoustic Pro series 6.5" separates up front and Boston coaxials in the rear doors along with 1 10" or 12" sub. Will the stock front speaker locations give me solid imaging and sound quality? I'm looking to power the sub with the Fosgate amp and buy and Orion 4 channel amp for the mid and high range drivers. I'm also looking to add the Eclipse Commander system with cellphone interface initially and later the GPS hookup. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with these items? Specifically speaker brand choice and an Orion or Kicker sub versus a JL Audio stealthbox? Thanks in advance!

The top-of-the-line stuff from Orion and Kicker is definitely good, but I'm partial to JL Audio. That HU doesn't have an amp section in it, does it? You can definitley get a good left/right balance if you take the time to aim the tweeters properly.

I too am partial to JL as I have a 12W6 that is 4 years old now still pounding in my Escort. I think its time for an upgrade but maybe I'll just move it over into the Max until it pounds its last beat....Hmmm, that would save me at least $300 on a new sub and box...almost enough for the Clifford alarm with remote start....You're correct, that HU has 3 sets of pre-amps only....One heckuva piece for those who haven't used Eclipse before....

Your system will be pretty comparable to mine, check out my CarDomain site for some pics of my system. I have JL speakers all around components, coaxials and subs. The imaging is pretty decent, it isn't the greatest, but it will do for installing the drivers in the stock location. I have one of the newer line of Eclipse units, the CD8051 to be exact. The unit kicks some serious booty and I'm thinking about the commander unit as well. It would be pretty sweet!! I have Kicker amps and just let me say that they rock!! The only real problem that I see is that the input voltage that the Kicker's can take is only 2V, while my unit is kicking out 8V so that is the only thing they are seriously lacking in. I'm thinking of some EQT's for EQ's so those will match the voltage between the HU and the amps. Good luck with the system!!

Yep, my Eclipse is the 5504 competition CD tuner (no internal amps) with 5V pre-outs and 55 ohm output impedence. Bought her new 2 years ago last month I believe. I'll definitely be getting the commander unit to get the voice control and cellphone /GPS usage sometime down the road.....I've been a HUGE Rockford Fosgate amp fan since 1990 (Punch 30 and Punch 75 still working for all you Fosgate fans!!) but the last couple of years have seen a marked deterioration in their quality and longevity so I'm looking for something new to take over my most wanted amp list. Sounds like Kicker has a brand worth considering....Orion looks pretty tough also. I notice there are a few IASCA competitors out here. I wonder if they are using stock speaker locations up front or not? Guess I'll find out if they read this! I wouldn't go with Audiocontrol EQTs unless I was competing that's for sure....too damn complicated for me with 31 bands per channel! Good luck on everything, I'll keep posting as my system install gets closer to fruition!
