Shumax, I too am a radar nut and have used many radar detectors. I currently have the 8500 because my friend got a ticket in my car when a trooper got him with Ka, no warning. I switched because of all the hype of the KA performance of the Passport. I just wanted to make this clear, do you think that the V1 is now absolutely superior than the 8500 in Ka and K? You mentioned that you, "got a chirp out of the V1-1.8 version, about 2.7 miles out. I looked at the Passport 8500...nothing"

I will be taking a loss with selling the 8500 and spending a lot for the V1 1.8 and just wanted to make sure. I will be buying soon and will take both radars and will let everyone know my experience with them. Thanks.

hmmm

I won't say the V1 will 'trounce' the 8500 in Ka and K performance, but in my tests and others, it certainly did beat it. In my case it beat it by at least .25 of a mile---you be the judge.

I just finished a 700 mile road trip to Chicago this weekend and was able to test the Bel980 and the V1---look for a writeup by the end of the week. I would do more now, but work has me tied down.
