Ok, so I goofed. I originally posted that I had a 98 w/o the bose system. Well I get to the dealer and realize that they f*$ked up. It didnt have ABS brakes, which are kind of important to me because I drive in such crappy weather all the time. But enough about that. They had a 99 SE-L fully loaded so I bought that instead.

I hear people complaining all the time about adding subs to the bose system. If I have high-level inputs on my crossover, can I just take the signal straight from the pos/neg terminals on the speakers in the trunk? I see posts about needing some sort of converter, and I was hoping not to have to buy one. I am fairly good with electronics and think I should just be able to use the inputs on my crossover, but then again, I dont want to make any expensive mistakes!

Sorry, but I can't remember where...

But I did see a site where a guy spelled out how to add a sub to the Bose system.
I know that's not much help besides it being doable.
It was a Max owners web site, so only a bazillion links to hunt down sorry!

Thanks!

Thanks anyways! Yeah I have found some sites with instructions, but nothing yet about being able to run it straight into the high-level inputs. Oh well, the search continues!

Try a local shop or call Crutchfield ( http://www.crutchfield.com/ ). They're not the greatest place to actually buy from, but they do have a nice knowledge base to tap.

Has anybody seen the moderator, where is that damn moderator? They are just like cops nowhere to be found when you need them, but seriously, you could wire the high level inputs. You would have to take your signal from in between the bose amp and speaker. I had that set up in both my maxes ( with a $25 line out converter), it worked pretty good, a little bass kick really helps the bose.

The problem with this arrangement is that the bosec amp seem to limit the low end.

Didnt even think about that!

I didnt even think about the fact that the BOSE amps probably have some sort of cut off point. where are the input wires going into the amps? Or do you think that the head unit itself does the cutting of the low-low-end??

My friend added an amp and a sub to his factory 96 Bose sysyem, and it sounds pretty good. He had to use a converter, though.

bose add on

I have been told that the chip is in the amp units, besides the input into the amp is the problem. you need to hook after the amp to get an acceptable impedance. An audiolink 2 channel rig is the best way to go. I forget the location, but just search bose stereo.

How low do they go?

So does anyone know at what Hz the BOSE speakers are clipped at?
