Satellite Radio
Satellite Radio
damn...i just went to a meeting today to learn and sell satellite radio...it kinda sucks right now cause of the antenna...it's so big...it's a little bit bigger than a computer mouse and has like a 4-6 inch tail coming off of it...and u can't paint the antenna...or u will get crappy reception...also if u don't like it, after u installed the antenna...u will have the chance of ruining ur paint job, cause the tape is like glue...
that's all for right now...just to let u know...i hope they make smaller antennas and in different colors

I totally agree with you. The antenna sux
Yes the Alpine is smaller and I also carry the Terk roof mount and glass mount antennas for XM Satellite radio and the roof mount is more low profile and looks the best.

i have an alpine 7977 deck. How much for a Terk antenna? Do I need to add a receiver unit to the 7977? It's "xm ready"
btw, got a pic of the terk antenna?
thanks
i don't really like the glass ones cause they are like the defroster lines and i don't want more in the back...do u have pictures of the smaller antenna...and how much?...the big roof mount from xm sells for $80 and the glass one sells for $100
No sorry no pic...I checked out Terks website and they have no pic as well...I have them in stock here in Tweeter of Cali but I'm not sure back east...we have them for $79.99 for either the glass mount or the roof mount. The roof mount is roughly only 3" tall. The Alpine XM tuner box is sold seperately and you need it in order to get XM satelite radio reception. It retails for $279.99 and it is only $9.95 a month for over 100 channels of music and much of it is commercial free.

Heh, you guys would really buy this service though? I just can't see paying $10 a month for radio when you can get MP3/CDR/etc for pretty much free... Of course they said that about cable service and HBO and etc. as well, but I just don't see myself paying $10/mo for radio no matter how commercial free.
It sounds great
I had a chance to hear and play with a pioneer deck with xm radio working. It sounds great. We coudlnt fiugre out how to make it display the title of the songs and stuff though. From what i could tell i only liked about 10 if the 100 chanels. I wouldnt pay for it but I is nice and sounds great.

Doesn't the fact that the radio station will stay with you while you drive all the way from NY to FL to LA in pure CD quality sound ALL THE TIME sound enticing?? Does to me
Besides, the digital era of sound has left FM stereo radio so far behind.

yep
i will probably pay/sign up when there is a decent looking antenna.
i like the idea of it, and the selection. even tho i dont listen to radio much, it will be nice to have the option.. and much more selection

I like it.. but.. $ow.
Heck of a nice system. I haven't listened to commercial radio stations in about a year, but now and then I'll accidentally flip one on and remember just how awful they are: Screaming used car and beer ads interspersed with announcers who somehow think they have something to say, with an occasional over-played song thrown in for variety.
I spend more time in my car every week than I do in front of my $5,000 HDTV setup. But until they can get an antenna that doesn't have "NEW FANCY RADIO TO STEAL" just written all over it, I'll hold off.

Thinking about this some more, I realize that the success of satellite radio will depend hugely on the satellite radio stations, they better be good. If they put Z100 on satellite, game over. The coast to coast reception and CD quality audio are just the icing on the cake.

I just read this post... got my XM radio this weekend.. its pretty neat. plus i got the trek antenna that mouse looking thing. guess wat i tried something different to make the worst looking antenna something else... i mounted it on the rear deck betweek two speakers, and guess wat? it works as good as if its mounted on the roof.. my car is black with black 15% tints.. so just think that antenna thing is just gone in the black. XM rocks.. dedicated channels to every kind of musiq.. i got pioneer dedicated tuner for myself so i have direct hookup with my 9300. XM is not in CA though... still on east coast! lol
