Well this has been one hell of a week. First someone stole a credit card out of my apartment (I believe it's one of the maintainance staff) then last night someone broke the front passanger window on the Max. I am now thinking about putting an aftermarket alarm on the car since the stock one doesn't seem to it's job very well. So if you've got some opions let me hear them...and if you have a price range that'd be great too. I don't want to spend $500 for an alarm, but I don't want a Walmart special either. If anyone cares, I don't owe the credit card anything and nothing of any importance was stolen out of the car.

Thanks,

Dan

man that sucks

That really sucks bro. Uhmm, I know Clifford makes some pretty good alarms, just go down to your stereo shop and compare prices/features, any of the big names will do (viper family, clifford, etc).

In my opinion though alarms are more trouble then they're worth. I mean, it'll scare of little punks messing around, but by then the damage has usually been done (ie broken window) and a professional car theif will be in and out in no time and won't even be phased by the alarm.

Here some info that will help you >>

Don't know if you got my e-mail, but here it goes. Some history....my 1999 SE with factory alarm got broken into last year. They ripped my rear seat out to get to the system. They also broke my glove box. Stole my sunglasses and my 9mm. Put a huge dent in the dash. I was pissed since it was pretty much brand new. Anyway, they knew that if you break the window and step thru it. The factory alarm WILL NOT go off. It will go off if they had open the door. They knew that so they didn't open any door or trunk. The factory alarm doesn't have a shock sensor and most audio shop said you can't add one to it. They all tried to sell me a $500 alarm. Anyway, I found this shop in my area that sells. Code-alarm. Code-alarm have a ITS system that goes for around $90+$50 installation that can be add onto the Maxima alarm. Now, my car has a shock sensor. I also added a Varad scanner. Basically an extra LED to deter break in. What the unit does is it tricks the stock alarm thinking there is a door open and set off the alarm. I showed this to few people during Maxus. Anyway..Here's the website. http://www.code-alarm.com/ or this http://www.code-alarm.com/its.html This is the place I got it installed. Sound Solutions 14508 Lee Rd # B Chantilly, VA 20151 (703) 631-4104. Talk to Chris. Try to find a Code-alarm dealer in your area and get it install locally. If you or your installer have question. Give Chris a call and he will probably help you.

Re: I guess thats what I have with my alarm->

But the Dealer put it on when they sold me the car. I can adjust the sensitivity of how my alarm goes off. I can even set it if a truck go by it will come on. Right now if you kick the rims or hit the window or hood it will go off. But check this out the dealer charged me $1,000 for that $HIT. They rip me off I was so happy that I was buying a new car I didn't realize the alarm costed so much.

pet alarm

i was always thinkin' alarms don't do much now, except for beep and crap. no one cares about them no more, alarms get set off 24/7. (don't get proximit, too many false alarms) i say if u arent' affraid of snakes, get one and put it in ur car. i would be scared crapless if i saw one in a car, let alone to be with one in the car. i think that should help out the most.

My Clifford cost me about $325, and has saved my *** many times.

I've watched people from work, school, the Mall, even from home when I've got the lights off in the house..

people will go up and mess with the car (I'm sure mostly because of looks), as soon as they see it has an alarm, they leave it alone.

One time when I was staying at a friend's dorm at UM-Rolla, I walked out to my car and stodd there for a couple min watching someone try to jimmy the lock on my car. witht he alarm armed, every time the door unlocks, it instantly locks itself again, preventing them from opening the door unless they hold the lock up and pull the handle at the same time. not that hard, but as soon as you do that, the alarm goes off and attracts attention (exactly what it's supposed to do)

blah blah blah.. it did it's job.. dude with the jimmy took off empty handed. as he was sneaking away, ducking under the windows of cars, he tossed his jimmy in the back of a truck..
stupid people out there....

but yeah, my alarm does it's job. I've seen it work on many occasions.
the light in the dash is VERY bright and can be seen from 50+ feet away through the rear window. it's also visible from any of the side windows..

simple

if you don't care too much about all the fancy stuff, ie. remote start, window crack down, walking light, stereo on. then just get any alarm that can lock and unlock doors with a shock sensor. they should be cheap. any brand works. but just get a good LED scanner. that way ppl would think you have a whammin' jammin' alarm and would think twice about jacking your stuff. and if all you want is the scanner, you can hook one up to your stock alarm. just pry the clock console out and locate the wire for the factor led. splice there u go. a wannabe aftermarket alarm.

pedal locks

The guy i deal with is pretty ingenious , he has locks for almost eveything . He showed me a lock for mustang pedals , basically two peices of steel hinged , the lower piece is big enough that pedals can not be pressed, three slots one each pedal & is sealed with a heavy duty padlock!
Nifty , i think however the best security is visible

There was a guy at the NYC meet who sold a thing ryz is talking about....

He sold it to the dude with that hot *** GLE with a sick system...
It does seem pretty convincing,
I rather have them take all my **** out the car then take the car itself... I got liability insurance and that sh-t is still expensive, nothing is really covered, so if its stolen, I'm f-cked...
That thing that Matt is talking about, when the door locks go down automatically if u try to manually pull em up.. My max got that.... I also got that stock security on my car, so if I leave a window down and someone tries to manually open the door without a key, it goes off.
I also got a club yeah!

I have nothing inside that u can take, some CD's, EZ pass and BOSE stereo.

Here's one for ya

About a year ago.....it's my day off, i wake to pounding on my door. I yell to go away but it persists. i finally answer and it is my downstairs neighbor talking some nonsense about a problem with my car.....i wipe my eyes and go outside to find 2 of my racing hart c-5's gone from my passenger side. i am pissed!!! I look at the car and see that they did not break into the interior but made off with 2 rims!!! what the hell are you gonna do with 2 rims......i will assume that they were either scared off or they are driving around with stock rims on front for that riceboy my car is too low look......anyway, insurance paid for my wheels and i kept the money and sold my other 2 rims......i have yet to replace my rims......make no mistake, i have the second best Alpine alarm and the thieving punks somehow got past it......goes to show that even aftermarket alarms do not always do the trick......you should get a gun.....for personal safety and protection of property.....just my opinion

no guns

what if the thief takes the gun??? shoots u with your own gun? that's what i'm worried about... oh as far as the thieves going past your alarm, sorry to hear that. the shock sensor won't be triggered if there's no sudden movement. u need the tilt sensor. that works real well, it was designed to prevent or detur theives from jacking rims.. think of it i need one too haha.

i suppose that is a possible concern....

but i dont keep it in my car...i'm not some nut out to shoot people....my 9mm is registered to me and i have a concealed weapons license....also, i like to think that a would be thief could not get into the position to be holding my gun on me.....im currently looking for new rims again so i think i will go get a tilt sensor......damn hindsight

attn people with rims

well i've worked at a german autoshop that specialized in porches they have the best wheel locks i've ever seen. instead of utilizing a special socket, what it has is a lil' metal cover that goes over one of the five lugs, with a lock in it. to pop that off you need a tiny key. (a real key, not talkin' about the key's or the "special socket") seems to work real nice.. i'm not sure if it's out for aftermarket. it's real hard to pull out without using the key.. and if you were to get it off by force you'll scratch the rim. i've never had to do it tho, and never seen it done. just a guess. they don't look bad either.
